RE: Kent State vs. Ohio U.
Nice to see a game dedicated to Autism Awareness considering we have the 1st known autistic player In NCAA history. I didn’t watch the game but it seems we had a sizable lead most of the 2nd half, could’ve we work him in more than a few seconds?

Totally agree, again if KSU was doing their job music would have been screened prior to performance. No excuse for OSU fight song in our house.
Another issue, once game begins latecomers should only be seated during
Breaks in the action. This is how it’s done in other arenas. We missed first 12 points Kent scored due to ushers disorganization and fans standing in aisle in front of us. Ushers poorly trained

You didn’t but both your posts inferred the school did it. I wouldn’t think Nielsen sang it. If you weren’t at the game you would think that (see Danny’s post) the band played it. Kent just did some good marketing bringing in 100 kids and upwards of 300 parents and grandparents and the whole board is worried about a damn song. The funny thing is as soon as I heard it I knew what would happen. Personally I was upset with all the noise from the Bobcat fans. There were more of them than students I’m afraid.

RE: Kent State vs. Ohio U.
Burden, I inferred the school did it because the school did it. The marketing/in-game experience staff is in charge of all events on that floor and through those speakers during a home event. So yes, ultimately Kent State played the Ohio State fight song over the MAC Center PA. If you can’t see the problem with that, then you (and anyone else) are clueless when it comes to marketing and branding.
It’s very strange because Joel is well-known for “coming down” on student-athletes and staff for wearing ANY gear besides Kent State. Baseball players have been yelled at for wearing their high school hear in the weight room. Staff members have been admonished for wearing Indians and Browns gear.
I get that to some of you little picture people, this is a very minor thing. But I went to Kent, I still come to games and have friends who work there. Kent State is in an oversaturated Division I college athletics market, fighting for every last scrap. To play a competitor’s fight song is a total slap in the face to those of us who bleed blue and gold.

You guys do realize that Kent State basketball hasn’t had a true point guard make a difference since.........shoot.......Holt? And we are supposed to GAF about a sound bite at halftime??
I’ve got a bunch of green backs on Elyria +8. So burden, I’m getting my little picture mind on my money.

Ok, I'll say it. There is nothing particularly special about Kent's fight song. Now, given that one of the best rock guitarist of all time, Joe Walsh went to Kent for something like 7 years, can we just take Funk #49 and fashion it into a new fight song? I'll kick in $5 to help secure the rights.

Since Kent's "fighting for every last scrap" of publicity... I thought it may be interesting to some that the poster dunk by Troy Simons (not Simmons sportscenter...) made the #8 play on sportscenters top 10 last night. Simons is a Sr guard that plays basketball at Kent. To my knowledge he was not involved in the planning of the halftime show. It did appear that some players and fans were yelling "OH" after the dunk but there's no evidence of anyone responding with "IO" so I've concluded we're allowed to celebrate this play. Nice job Troy! RIP OU defender. Condolences to his family.

Good point. I’m going back to women’s basketball posts. It’s more in my wheelhouse.

RE: Kent State vs. Ohio U.
Yeah I get it. I’m the family kook. I over analyze and I micromanage I am guilty on all counts of big-picture thinking.
But its the same small minded thinking and lack of vision that leads to Dix Stadium looking the same as it has for 12 years, that leads to PSLs at a basketball game AFTER an Elite Eight run, that leads to Kent being the ONLY team in Lexington without merchandise to sell. That leads to charging admission for once-free baseball games when its 30 degrees. That leads to the devalue of a product by slipping a pointless game with Concord College in before Ohio State visits the MACC for a womens basketball game. That leads to 6000 people showing up for an Akron game just to sit on their hands until the last play. This place was great once. Now it’s dominated by apathy. I don’t know what the hell happened.
I’ll stop now. But not before I also suggest evidently some of you didn’t “GAF” about Jalen Avery “making a difference” in back to back years with the best assist-to-turnover ratio in the game - one of which was a championship year. Short memories.

Reminds me that Jalen Avery was a winner and most important to me is that he made his teammates better. We do not have much of that on this team. And for those of us who bleed Blue and Gold, it hurts to hear that song in our house. And yes, it really hurts to see our we lost all momentum after the Elite Eight. I hold our athletic administration responsible for dropping this ball.

RE: Kent State vs. Ohio U.
True point guards and a rarity nowadays but also a man reason we won tourney that year was we played outside in with Jimmy Hall. Not saying you can't shoot 3 but feed post and either get easy post buckets or let him set up outside guys for 3.
DP hangs around 3 pt line and we run the weave and chuck a 3. Phil unfortunately doesn't have the skill set for the Jimmy Hall role. I think DP could but he doesn't want to live down there.
If you noticed his body language was very poor Saturday and he got a flagrant foul. Why in a 20 pt win? Because he wasn't getting his....
