RE: OT: XFL
What about those college kids that just completed their final year of eligibility and now face the uncertainty of the NFL draft? Why wouldn't the XFL go after them?

Otherwise they have to wait a full year+ to get a shot at one of those players that could be on the fringe of making an NFL roster.

Would definitely give high school kids an interesting choice. Skip college and play four years in the xfl for money or stay in college and get a degree for free.

Ends the whole concern over NCAA antitrust if there is a legit pro alternative.

True! You may see the ncaa secretly start to endorse it in order to circumvent any lawsuits that may come.

Oh im sure they will go after them. A WVU player who was ruled academically ineligible for his senior year chose to instead play for the xfl rather than transfer.

Yeah, they’re gonna need to make it past year 1 for that to happen and they’re going to have to sign several to even make it matter. The thing is that these teams don’t have any type of permanent facilities. In college there will be more year-round training and at a top program, you’ll probably be practicing against more NFL-bound players daily than you’ll face in the whole season in the XFL.

Vince has funded the XFL for 3 years so the XFL literally won’t fold before that. Not to mention a majority of the guys playing in the XFL are former nfl players so no matter what way you slice it the talent in the xfl is better than a good portion of the college, but definitely not all.

RE: OT: XFL
I think this league will probably make it two years, but it’s going to face the same challenges that every other attempt since the USFL has faced: American taste for football doesn’t necessarily extend to any and all versions of football. People are happy with it because it’s a shiny new toy. Starting week 3, people will remember that they don’t care about any of these teams and none of these players are trying to hang around long enough to become XFL HOFers. The quality of play will drop. The good players will leave.

If the weekly viewership is anywhere close to what it was this past week for the entire season, I wouldn't be shocked to see some investment in facilities. Not right away, but eventually. Once they show they can turn a legitimate profit, the sky is the limit

The whole shiny new toy theory falls apart pretty quick though when you actually take time to research the league. Unlike the AAF the ticket sales for all teams have doubled for the second week also unlike the AAF the TV ratings are predicted to double, ive even seen some estimates that they may triple their first week ratings. Then you take a look at merchandise sales and the league is actually selling merchandise at the same rate the nfl did for the entire month of January.

The AAF and old XFL however completely fell apart after the first week. The difference between every league since the usfl and the current XFL is they were completely rushed and banked on getting investor support. This XFL version however has all the costs already paid for, for the next 3 years. So any money made at this point is just paying back Vince.

Ya this league was really well researched and the studies they did before making the league have helped a ton. Not to mention all the legitimate talent they have hired from the coaching, to the tv exposure, all the way to the officiating crew.

Another thing that really killed the AAF is it was impossible to easily find a game on television.

True, there won't be an XFL game on CBSSN or FS2.

Though, as someone who hasn't had cable in years, I don't get ESPN or FS1, either. Which means I have to find a stream for the Roughnecks game sunday.
