RE: UCF Basketball
I had pencilled in the Cincy game as a loss, but now it’s a possibility UCF could win out, with the remaining games being:
Tulane (Win)
@Uconn (Probably a loss but who knows)
@Tulsa (Toss up)
SMU (Likely win)
ECU (Win)
If we can win the UConn game, I like our chances of winning out, and who knows, maybe we could sneak into the NIT.

UCF did well in OOC play, but at this point, maybe we have enough hindsight to perceive that they might have been better off adding more freshman recruits to the roster.
Does this sum things up somewhat accurately?
Also, do you see the more experienced players that Dawkins has added - who will return - will be an asset or next season?
And this - do you think he could have brought in other high 3 star or 4 star recruits rather than the JUCOs?
Yes, UCF missed big time on a number of transfers and got more duds than expected. My hope is that JD has realized that and started shifting focus to getting a higher percentage of freshmen. And so far, it looks like he's done that and they look promising for the future. I hope he continues to give them more minutes this season to prepare for next.
Transfers I'm sure will always have a place and that's fine, but you can't build a team around them unless they're elite players coming to you. And we're not a program that can attract elite anyone really. It's going to have to be promising, under the radar younger players that have a capacity to develop to compete in a league like this.

SMU just lost @Tulane, I like our chances in that game. @Uconn is tough, they play well at home, and @Tulsa might be a challenge too, although we dismantled them at home.

smu lost an away game, with their star player having his worst game of the season, while shooting 15% from 3..
smu is the best 3pt shooting team in the conference
you are playing @smu...i wouldnt put too much stock in the tulane game alone for projections

Hypothetically, if UCF won all our remaining games, then won a game or 2 in the conference tourney, what do you think our NIT chances would be?

Now Doumbia had to sit out last year so after over 1.5 years in the program...he looks like a failure at this time.
Dawkins has finally seen what a disaster its been trying to rely mostly on JUCOs and Transfers to fill his roster.
There are a few Freshmen that show promise (especially Green...and Fuller has had his moments when his healthy...while Johnson needs PT...as he has only played 77 mins this season)...and with a focus on more HS recruits signed in Nov...I hope Dawkins gets off this transfer/JUCO train.
It sounds like Coach Dawkins made an all-out effort to avoid having a losing season by stoking the roster with JUCOs and transfers.

I think this is pretty close to true. I think after last year with the entire team graduating or leaving early he panicked and tried too hard. He should have written off this season and rebuilt
Disagree...as that was his priority almost EVERY year since he was hired....as it was pretty obvious that after he spent 20 years at Duke/Stanford...he did not have many AAU/HS connections on UCF's "level" (i.e. he told more people NO who wanted to come to Duke & Stanford....as recruits come to you)...and the same for most of his P5 Assistants.
Many of us were calling his lack of HS recruiting a PROBLEM from almost Day 1...as its WAY too risky to sign so many transfers/JUCO's...because when you whiff on them, they leave HUGE holes behind...and then you recruit MORE transfers/JUCO's trying to play catch-up....its a never ending cycle.
I think he finally has seen the forest thru the trees...as he didn't have to "win now" this year...as UCF AD Danny White likes him a lot...and hopefully more of his HS recruits will start to payoff in the next year or two.
Agreed. I hope he can establish some relationships with the local high schools, as there’s a lot of talent in the area. I’m personally hoping we can land AJ Neal, a 4 star CG in the class of 2021 thats from Orlando as well.

It was great to see the true freshmen Johnson shine in the big win at Cinci...and its players like that which will help Dawkins win more games in the future.
Right now, his 2020 class consists of 3 HS players so thats a great sign to help build up depth in another year or two.
NOTE: UCF will most likely sign 1 grad transfer or possible 1 more if a player deep on the bench transfers at season's end.
Late transfers will always be the norm these days so "trading" players/grad transfers is now the new norm but at least Dawkins sees the payoff in regards to recruiting MOSTLY HS players now.

Yeah I always thought the offense ran smoother with Johnson, and obviously Green is a future star. Fuller is another good player when he isn’t hurt, and these players will be the foundation for our program moving forward. I’m excited about Jamille Reynolds in the class of 2020, he had a lot of major offers and was highly rated, and also plays center, a position that we need more depth.
