Toews Pro Debut
I saw his Instagram account had some videos. Good to see. Of course, I couldn’t read all the Japanese, but the team and crowd appeared excited to have him.

Unfortunately, the opposing PG went for 30! Just kidding. Congrats, I’m sure that you’re proud of your son as you should be.

Watched the Video, and a quick observation, THIS is the Kai we got used to seeing last year, and not what he brought this year(for whatever reason). Played with more energy, showing off the handle, aggressive to the rack etc.....

I'm thinking that he felt pressure from the losing. But I'm also thinking personal issues were also weighing on him. I believe he was trying too hard to help turn things around on the court. Something, if he had been able to stay, he would have worked out.

+1 and I think some of those personal issues extended from his buddy transferring from WSU, not working out and abruptly leaving. I think that chain of events took a toll on him too.

Kai is also the straw that stirs the drink, he's not the drink. He could make snap passes to our bigs last year for easy buckets under the basket, he didn't have that this year. Can you imagine if McGrath has him lobbing alley oops to Cacok off high picks? Bottom line, he is at his best when he's surrounded by players who can finish.

We didn't have a ton of those last year either, other than a Healthy Ty and Cacok

This made me spit my beer out. I think Kai should have stayed but to each his own. Kai leaving probably had a big role in CB eventually getting fired. Basically gave Kai the reigns, underperformed beginning of second season, and then left (Mid Season!!!). CB had to know he was in big trouble then.
That being said, I don’t know Kai’s situation. May have been the best thing for him to leave. After some time to digest it, I think we all maybe better off.

Agree with this. Also, I mean no offense to HAWKING, whatever his relationship is with Toews, do we really care about the overseas professional career about a player who bailed after 1.5 years?

If his reasons were true, I have no problem with it. Family first.

No issue with him leaving and playing professionally. Good for Kai to be making money doing what he loves. Not sure what you are insinuating about family first.

McGrath said his family was in financial difficulty and he went pro to help out. If that is true, I definitely have no problem with him leaving when he did.

If that's the case, that's different! Go Toews go! I didn't know that and that makes a world of difference to me. Go earn a career big man and do your thing!!

Well I certainly hope Kai makes top-end dollars in Japan if that’s the case. Otherwise the value of a free degree + free housing (either here or another school) would outweigh the value of his contract when factoring in the cost of living out there.
Either way I wish him well.

Kai Toews 2022-23 Season Player Contract Report | Shiga Lakestars
We are pleased to inform you that we have reached an agreement with Kai Toews (Utsunomiya Brex) for the 2022-23 season player contract (new).
Taves experienced Japan national team by age group and went to the United States in high school. In college, he finished second overall in Division 1 with an average number of assists per game in the NCAA Rookie Year.
Even after participating in the B League, he won the title of Best Rookie Player Award in the 2020-21 season, and in 2021 he was ranked first in the league by fan voting in B.LEAGUE’s Valentine’s Day project “Mote Otoko No. 1 Final Battle”. It’s shining.
Experienced the B League Final for the second consecutive year at Utsunomiya Brex. This season I won the championship at the age of 23.

Have to wonder, had he stayed here and shattered assists records, would he have gotten a bigger shot as a Jason Kidd type player.
