I assumed they stopped to acknowledge the crowd's cheers of support.

Which is why they stopped every few steps.

And yes, I heard a few USA chants. And if you read what I wrote again, I said it had nothing to do with trump...I just thought it was odd that they kept stopping and that trump and Melania were not walking exactly with them. I have no clue whether any of it was rehearsed or intentional. It just looked strange to me.
