Probably more of a flagship than UConn was

UMass would meet the same AAC membership criteria as UConn did (with the exception of UConn's unique history in MBB & WBB), if they had a very good FB or BB program.

Criteria met:

-Large, state-affiliated university

-Flagship school

-R1 research university

-Strong academic credentials

-Nationally recognized (albeit for their MBB program in the 1990s), with a legacy brand in basketball.

-Located in a sizable metro area, and only 1.5 hours by car from Boston (4.5 million population).

-Only 3 hours by car from New York City, with a metro area population of 20 million.

It's really a terrible lost opportunity for UMass that neither of their FB nor BB programs comes close to the quality required for AAC membership.

Ding ding ding

The only "G5" on the list is UCF. Despite past history indicating more than one AAC school on the year end top 25, McMurphy's bias clearly shows out.

Is "McMurphy's bias" related in any way to "Murphy's Law?"
