It’s actually been a big national story. ESPN even had it on their crawl the day it happened. Let Ole Miss lie in the bed they’ve made. I’m sure it’s going to work out just peachy for them.

I'd like to think y'all are morally a little bit better than Ole Miss...

My point in saying that is that after the initial announcement there isn't an uproar from fans media etc.

That’s just the way the news cycle works. A few days of stories, then on to the next thing. The media most assuredly got their shots in. Just type “D.J. Durkin” into a news search for a plethora of unflattering commentary. I’m guessing the most public/widespread was this USA Today piece:
https://amp.usatoday.com/amp/2798905001
The biggest difference, though, is Durkin’s already definitively faced all the discipline he’s going to. Briles still has the NCAA’s final word on Baylor hanging out there. Nobody’s touching him until that’s settled.

HOP TRIED to make a huge game changing positive move by hiring Briles to competently run the O, which would have freed him up to try to straighten out the D and CPR'd our football program.
BENNETT CAUSED A MAJOR STINK and embarrassment to USM by retreating, cowering under his desk and hanging Hop out to dry. A little courage would have shut the whiners up immediately.
So, Hop was forced to find an OC at the GOODWILL SALVAGE STORE.
If I were Hop after the Bennett treatment it'd be HARD TO CARE.
You left out that Hop tried to cowboy that. He didn't tell anyone he was talking to Briles. That was stupid.
But even with Briles, we're not going to win with guys that were only offered schollys to the Louisiana School for the Blind.

Bennett needs to go because he couldn’t care less about athletics. He’s shown time and again that he believes we’re as good as we can and should be. He holds no standards for our athletic performance and puts zero pressure on our AD for success. It’s been this way since he was hired, and I have a feeling there are some on IHL and our Foundation that are right beside him believing the same, so long as they keep their power on a sinking ship.

I disagree. Briles is a brilliant coach and at our position coaching is EVERYTHING. With Briles we win 3, maybe 4 more games.

I don't think it really matters anyways. I will be surprised if we still have a program in a few years. Nobody wants to go watch us play UTEP while State is playing LSU at home. Unless we have a few billionaires go buy us into the power 5 (which we don't have) then football will get worse and worse until its over.
And don't worry, every other school not in the power 5 is going down with us. Can't afford it.

Do you disagree with the entire statement or just the part about with Briles we're not going to win?
Because it was pretty dumb of Hop to cowboy it.. Can we at least agree on that?
If Hop would've went through the right channels and got denied that's one thing, but being sneaky is another.
Sh*t the man could've just met Briles for drinks and done an unofficial interview and that would've been better than what he tried to pull.

Briles didn't believe we pressure washed the Rock and needed to see it first hand before he would consider the position.
If I was a below average HC like Hop, I probably would have done the same thing. Tell my interim AD I'm bring the guy in for an interview and if he doesn't say 'NO', then I'd do it. If the Prez wants to know, the interim AD can tell him.
The college football community is the most forgiving group if you are winning. Just look at Penn St. People don't talk about the disgusting things that happened there not too long ago, but how they are now winning again. Same about Baylor.

Being that he’s such a brilliant difference-maker, if you’re going to go there, you go all-in and replace Hopson with him instead of farting around making him OC.

Remember all those new OCs Bower brought in and how they were going to change the game. Briles would have worked out like that.

Arguably the worst part of our team, I know there are many, and assuming there is a secondary coach, it doesn't appear that even he has anything to worry about. Now that's a measure to consider against Hop and McClain.

I'm going to disagree with you on this gd..
It's easier to ask forgiveness than permission. In this case, this had been the _one_ thing JH had done that showed he had the cajones to try to get us on a 'positive track'. (his playcalling sure as hell hasn't done it).
Plus, if Bennett was that pissed about what happened, he should have fired Hopson on the spot. He didn't. Why not? Because Bennett got his name in the paper as "doing the right thing' (not allowing us to hire Briles).
Is that to say Hopson doesn't have a lot to answer for in his failures? Nope.. he's got a ton to answer for (Playing not to lose, playing not to even try to get back into a game, etc.... HELL, if I didnt' know better I'd say Hop is the child of ELOSS, Hopson just happened to have some easier games he could win.)
WIll I miss Hopson when he's out the door ? Nope.. unfortunately as noted, we ain't bringing anyone any better right now even if he were let go.. (Who's OSU's latest Offensive Coordinator now anyway?)
