I'm not sure what to root for honestly, pretty much know the season is toast.... But losing more guys could set us back further even if we had a slam dunk hire of a new coach

More will be gone regardless of who the coach is next season. Might as well be someone different to bring us some hope.

Hopefully we will now be able to pick up a good big man. I believe that, even though I will miss Kai, maybe we will benefit in the long run. Since we have so many guards. That is if transferring is done.

I know this is a crazy idea but we should just forfeit the rest of the season to save money for the athletic department. There is no way we win another game the rest of the year.
On another note, hate that Toews couldn’t wait until the season was finished to leave. Quitting on your teammates and one of the only D1 schools that gave him an opportunity doesn’t sit right with me.

Yeah. Maybe the whole team could transfer to save us more money next year too?
I’m not saying this is dumb, but I feel like this post gave me some of the autism.

Who will be the point guard? Okauru, Gadsden, or someone else?

Gadsden is out indefinitely with an injury per the star news.

Well. If I were a betting man, I’d put a chunk of change on Shykeim Phillips being the starter at PG now, you know... the guy that just won ROW.
Here’s the thing. Toews numbers were shite this year. Blame that on the coach, the system... whatever you want. Phillips is the better all around PG of the two anyways. Phillips is a better on ball defender. Phillips is a better finisher. Phillips is a better shooter. The only thing Toews has on him was court vision and passing. Now, with Phillips required to play more minutes I expect to see his assist numbers go up as well. I also expect to see his TOs increase slightly during conference play as he figures it out.
A few of us said that it wasn’t good having Toews and Phillips on the floor at the same time. Now, we don’t have that problem and Phillips will have more room to grow.
Go Seahawks.

Sounds like you're better off without him. He has zero respect for his teammates and is void of honor.

Completely agree... taking the cowards way out by leaving in the middle of a season and giving a big middle finger to both his teammates and all who supported him at UNCW when no other D1 school was willing to take a chance.

Toews is loved by his teammates and vice versa. None of them blamed him for either choosing to make good money in the Pro League while trying to secure a place on the National Team for the 2020 Olympics. Coaching staff was obviously disappointed but that staff is on the way out. Toews' name is in the Portal today and will consider any High Major offers where he can receive better coaching and work on his deficiencies. He has a ways to go but he will eventually be successful. Leaving before league starts will allow him to play in Conference play in December similar to what Gary did the transferred out. It's all collateral damage from a 3 year tenure that showed no awareness or willingness to change and not being able to establish an identity at UNCW.

Had 7 D1 Scholarships. Turned down Wofford for this Circus.

Guys. Enough already. He's gone. ODU and Georgetown have multiple players who just hit the portal. It happens The new system was designed to allow more freedom for players and he took that opportunity. If UNCW basketball under McGrath had shown ANY imporvement, I doubt we'd be having this issue. Funny how everyone was cool with 3 transfers out after last season, because those guys were apparently "the problem" with the product on the floor, since they weren't "bought into the system".
Players don't want to move around. They choose the spots they go to for a reason. We can get all haughty about this, or acknowldge we have a problem when multiple payers who CHOSE UNCW are deciding it was a bad decision. This has happened every year McGrath has been here.

Hawking, are you going to stick around for a while and continue to follow the team or moving on? I don’t fault ya either way.
Kai’s departure isn’t shocking at this point really, and like both you and 82 said... a very telling metric of where we are as a program.
Conference play here we come!
Go Seahawks!
