MyBB Scouting & game planning for the Volunteers
I’ve been continually impressed by Barnes ability to squeeze so much juice out of his players over the last few seasons. This season is no exception.

He lost 4 starters and still has his team playing at a high level. They are a guard centric team this season. Unlike last year where their top players were down low, this season they only have one big man averaging 10 points & 5 rebounds. The rest are averaging 2 points or less and even worse on the rebounds.

Their 3 starting guards are averaging 13+points per game and are also their leading rebounders.

For Memphis this can be a break out game if they play their cards right. This is not a game where we want to get out and try to out run them. They have experience and depth and size at the guard spot that will cause us trouble if we try to out run them and get in a shooting battle.

There is enough tape out there on the Vols now for Penny & company to properly scout and game plan for this game over the next 5 days. Even without Wiseman, we have the muscle down low with Precious, DJ & Malco to cause big problems for the Vols down low. If the Tigers slow it down, work from the inside out and use the post game to set up our shooters, this can be a big introduction to the nation on what we are capable of.

#1 key to this game. Slow down Lomante Turner and make his day miserable, we win by double digits.

I hope we can make our free throws. There will be a lot of them called. Hopefully it's called somewhat fairly.

Not getting down by 20 will be key.

At the 12 minute mark in the first half we had 11 points. We didn't score again until just under 5 minutes in the half. So having 11 points by the first 5 minutes of the half and not the last 5 minutes of the half would be good. Hopefully we come out like we did against NC State.

The Vols aren't deep at all and essentially play four guys 30+ mpg. They go seven deep in contested games. And, like noted above, aren't terribly strong down low.

Obviously, not having James and Les nullifies what would be a huge advantage over them (depth and size) but Memphis should still be able to run 10 guys at them for the better part of 40 minutes.

Penny plays 10+ guys every game. I can see a lot of trips to the free throw line late in the game.

RE: Scouting & game planning for the Volunteers
UTK is jest OK at the 3 ball.
They like to turn it over.
They shoot FT's well.
They like rebounds but...
They are short; play 4 gaurds and 1 forward... must mean the guards are beasts.
They play 7 guys a lot, 5 avg over 25min, and no one else plays much.

We gonna runn'em, we don't play anyone more than 23min on avg.
We gonna out Jump'em, we have more tall players than them.
We shoot the 3 as well as they do. No advantage there.
We have to press'em and turn'em over.

We want lots of fouls. Except they shoot FT's much better than us.

Games gonna be nasty. The nasty team wins.

I wouldn't be a ref at this game for all the money in Knoxville.
