I believe the bonus for a bowl win is $50k, zero chance.

Damn just saw this, I might be an outsider but this is the weakest hire I've seen so far. If Fritz was really interested I think Mizzou will regret this one in the long run. Not saying Drink isn't a good coach, but I think he was riding the curtails of a truly great coach. Appy take the buyout and go pay someone that will hang around for a while.

Second, next buyout should be north of 2 million, we have a lot to offer, you want to stay 1 yr and then take over a P5 program, fine, you agree to a big buyout, that’s the price you pay for your dream job
Welcome to the world of one and dones. Yes, they will take or try to take commitments if they think they are good enough. Might even take a current player. Complaining does nothing to help. Regarding the buyout, if it’s too high, a coach won’t agree to it. If it’s someone you really want, you do what’s needed to get him to sign.
Disagree, we now have 2 coaches who have made it to the next level, and one of them is now the Coach of the yr in the ACC, unfortunately we now have the reputation as one of the best programs in the country to prepare a coach for the next level, and any candidate knows if he succeeds in Boone is almost guaranteed his own P5 program, you combine that with a great and supportive fanbase, plus all the new add ons to the stadium and a great area to raise your family, and I think it would be easy take this job even if the buyout is high
Just wait until you do it four straight years.

Fritz is not a great coach by any means. Mizzou made a better choice than Fritz.

That’s what happened with Neal Brown when he left for WVU, nearly took the entire staff with him. Our mascot was basically the only Trojan left behind...

I’m honestly shocked at this. Not that Drink left, but that he got this kind of offer this early. Just in terms of expectation vs what he can reasonably be expected to achieve, Missouri is a good job.
There is no reason they can’t be the 3rd best team in the east on a consistent basis, and compete for the division every three or four years if things fall right. I could see him winning there pretty quickly and moving up to an even better job.
I would have been pissed if he left for some wasteland job like BC or Vandy or Arkansas, but can’t blame him for this one. Good job coach, thanks for the great year!

This is the business aspect of college football, its unfortunate since it appears a number of App players bought in. From a 19-20 year old kid standpoint this is disheartening, as they have a sense of betrayal left. Most folks knew Drink would eventually move on, no one realistically thought it would be after his first year as a head coach. Going to be tough for the next coach to receive similar buy in from these young men, since G5 coaching is a mercenary business.

We need a guy that is a promising OC or DC that many people give glowing reviews about and see if we can lock him in for a few years before he gets to the next level. That's the way it works in college football. G5 is a stepping stone for those type of guys. We can have good success with that approach.
And yes, we could get snake bit with a bad coaching hire. Hell, even the P5s get caught in that trap.
Why can't your guys learn. We have already plowed that field. Not you but others should pay attention.

Deja Vu. Exact comments made 4 years ago in Statesboro. AD went looking for a coach who would "stick around". Having Moore for so long followed directly by Satt was very fortunate. I honestly think Mizzou is jumping the gun. All Drink had to do was not screw up what is there. It sucks that success at our level means losing your coach.

Let me defend APP fans by saying that twitter is a watering hole for overgrown children. There are some really great parts of twitter, but man there are a lot of self serving ass-hats.

Honestly, App will be fine without Drink in the bowl game. They'll appoint Clark the interim coach and the players will rally around him. Been there, done that.

Yeah, I unfollowed him pretty much straight away. Glad he didn’t wreck the team he was given and grateful the professionalism the team showed throughout the year. I don’t think it was a good fit and I hope we can get someone who is genuinely excited to be there.

I don’t begrudge Drink for leaving. I understand the short shelf life most coaches have, and don’t blame him for grabbing the golden ring. Did not expect only one season though. I’m glad to see the rally that the players have done in the last 24 hours, gives me hope for the future.

App State will be fine. Your coach went from an assistant coach position to head coach of an SEC program in just one year, and all he had to do was show up at App and not mess anything up. Every young coach with P5 aspirations should be tripping over themselves to get their resume to App's AD.
