Best choice, IMO. Norvell groomed him to take over. Dude is sharp, he has always been our lead recruiter, and the players love him.

And...he claims he wants to stay at Memphis and not job hop to the P5. We'll see.

Hilarious, just so hilarious.

Or he's the rare coach he does what he says. Either way, if he only stays four years and turns in a record similar to Norvell, I won't be too upset.

His comment was included as part of a segment on the "3HL" sports radio show out of Nashville.
Go to about the 10:34 mark....

Are we supposed to take it that his "best restaurant" was inside the Peabody? I was wondering if it was something lame and touristy like The Rendezvous.

IDK. Go find his list. My impression is it had nothing to do with the Peabody.

Not sure how I feel about this. Imo continuity hires are a bad idea, but Memphis has done so well with it's recent coaching hires that they get the benefit of the doubt. We'll see.

Current continuity hires:

Clemson - Dabo Swinney

LSU - Ed Orgeron

Ohio State - Ryan Day

Oklahoma - Lincoln Riley

Those 4 worked out pretty well.

They worked out somewhat less well.

As I said, we'll see.

Maybe the common denominator is Houston, lol.

Ryan Day and Lincoln Riley are still too soon to call if you ask me.
Check back in 3 or 4 years when they have their own recruits in place.

Memphis is going to be absolutely loaded and should be (as crazy as it sounds) considerably better next season. Brady White, Gainwell, Gibson all returning.

Awesome! Looking forward to beating y’all again next year.

Pretty easy to do...just get the same refs.

Best Restaurant was Folk's Folly.

You realize those are the 4 teams in the CFP this year, right? How many teams ever even make the CFPs?

Ryan Day has Ohio State playing better than anybody for basically the entire season, along with LSU.

But my real point was, all 4 coaches in the CFP this year were continuity hires.

Silverfield has been auditioning for 4 years to take the job when Norvell left. IMO, he's a much safer choice than either Fuente or Norvell when we hired them.

Wise hire and good timing... Hopefully he can a DC in time for the "P6"/NY6 bowl game.

One of our defensive coaches, Kevin Clune, is the interim DC. He was DC at Oregon State and maybe 3 other schools, so he can handle it better than a new guy.

Every hire is a crap shoot. Time will tell.
