This right here. I always thought that Beatty's Landstown teams were just this side of real shady. Like you kind of knew some sketch activity was going on but couldn't quite put your finger on it. Fedora just strikes me as a very odd individual. Not in a good way like Mike Leach but in a crazy way like a dude talking to ventilation grate outside a Metro station at 3:00 a.m.

Beatty illegally recruited players to his HS team. Ran up the scores and made a lot of enemies with other schools. Those bad feelings likely still exist with any coaches still here.

Beatty coached here 13 years ago. I'm not sure how many HS coaches remain.

Additionally, he got jobs as a recruiter at these colleges because he knew this area. Him running up the score on Kempsville HS in 2005 didn't hold him back then and likely wouldn't now.

And as to recruiting in HS--I mean, let's be honest about this. Any time there's a dominant team in a sport in an area, the other schools are going to complain. Princess Anne in women's hoops, Oscar Smith in football, Great Bridge (back in the day) in wrestling. It goes with the territory.

Beatty is slimeball. If he is doing stuff that is illegal in HS what will he do in college with donor money behind him? Big deal if others do it. Wrong is wrong.

So you are saying he knows how to recruit and is highly competitive? The "bad blood" with coaches in the area doesn't seem to effect his ability to recruit. He kills it.

Not sure if he is the right guy, but nothing that happened a decade and a half ago when he was a dominant HS coach convinces me that he should not be the coach.

I, too, am surprised we haven’t talked more about this, but I guess in my mind, that was a mistake 5 years ago. Even then, if he was genuine in his apologies, he seemed to truly realize the error of his ways, before doing anything with the documents, but after he was in too deep. Considering he hasn’t been implicated in any other shady dealings, I’m willing to chalk it up to lesson learned.

Fedora (allegedly) looked past local and in-state talent to his UNC teams, which pissed off NC HS coaches who then sent their kids elsewhere, and as a result his team's slid from a bowl game to 2 wins in just a few years. One of the complaints about those teams was the predictable and lackluster offense, and while the Tar Heels were temporarily buoyed by big changes on defense, Fedora and the OC Kapilovic (sp?) went down with the ship together. All of which sounds vaguely familiar....

I think it was a lesson learned. But, if you think many coaches would turn down the opportunity to find out the others teams gameplan, you are naive.

Beatty does not have a good reputation in the local area. There were allegations that he helped get Percy Harvin off an assault charge just before a run to a state championship. He used programs available at LHS to recruit kids zoned for other schools. Obviously, he was enabled by an administration that conveniently looked the other way. He's not the type of guy that should be the face of ODU's program.

I didn't think there were documents sent, I thought it was a Wake Forest play by play guy calling Beamer to give him a heads up on possible plays.

Is there actually and real news on the search? Something should have leaked by now if they were announcing a coach tomorrow like some have said...right?

FWIW, (if me), I didn't say they would announce tomorrow. I think they have their coach lined up. Im hoping they announce before (or during) the trip when the recruits are here. It would probably be beneficial.

THere is the thing tonight that might tie into whether a coach is announced soon or not.

In terms of real news......the staff is really tight lipped on this one.

That still hurts and we had to quit the game.

There was a former GB star QB that transferred to Indian River because Indian River offered Russian as a foreign language.

Instead of wondering why we're not talking about it, it's maybe because not everyone is well-versed in it. Can you two post some info about it?
