Terrible right now. I didn’t expect much this year but the first 4 games got my hopes up. Is Green injured?

Just in time for a trip to VCU.

Curry went 0-11 and all of his shots looked pretty open. Multiple layups. Jeez. I actually figured they’d lose this one just thought the guys would start getting a little better.

I do. Unc Charlotte before they were our conference “rival” lol. Those days are long gone my friend and the die hards like us have been replaced by millennial babies who are happy to win 20 games in a garbage conference and think Jeff jones is a “winner”.

Those odu teams would have beaten last years ncaa odu team by 20 or more guaranteed.

Green is a bad fit to be the guy who takes a thousand shots off of curls every game in the one trick JJ offense. This group as a whole is a bad fit for the same tired ass sets JJ wants to run game after game, year after year, decade after decade. They need to move the ball faster, they need to get into the frontcourt faster, they need to get into the offense faster once they get into the frontcourt, and they need to make quick decisions to drive shoot or pass. JJ's teams never do any of that, and this team will struggle all season offensively unless JJ adapts.

Think about this: Since the win at Northeastern on 11-16, ODU's men's basketball and football teams have not won a single game. Thank goodness for the Women's team, some wins there.

Just got back from Williamsburg with this observation. It's good the CAA is an inferior league, otherwise we might have lost by 30.

Just got back from Williamsburg as well. A tough night for our Monarchs. Until we find a way to score some points in the paint, points are going to be extremely hard to come by. I thought we played with a lot of intensity, but too many to’s, fouls, lack of an inside game is killing our outside game. Just ones opinion that doesn’t claim to be an expert. I do like what Hunter brings to the game. Once he settles down some more, I look for his shots to fall. He is quick, aggressive, a good passer. He has a ton of upside in my opinion. I am still optimistic things will get better. But , hey, I have always been a glass half full guy.

Or Ahmad Caver. Hoping everyone gets how important he was. Mr BigBlue told us the PG's would be a problem. The excitement from the staff when Hunter signed made me believe we would be fine with two talented guys manning the position. There is no replacing the league's best player last year. I am in shock, and I have to admit that I was wrong. This team is not very good, and I don't see much improvement coming.

The thing is, Curry was quite good early on. He seemed to be an adequate replacement for Caver. But he disappeared last night. Poor shooting, poor point guard play and weak interior play = a bad Monarch team. Im most disappointed and surprised by the lack of progress from Ezikpe and the regression of Green.

Thought our 3 point shooting would be much improved this year. Knew we would be light in the post, but expected Kalu and Dajour to make some nice improvements this year. The PG to me, isn't as bad and might be the easiest to correct. Adding a small frame SG in a couple weeks isn't going to cure what ails this team. Maybe things start coming together.

Godwin might be the worst player I've ever seen that plays big minutes. He is useless.

Yeah, I know. Caver and Stith were both really good.

What happened to we were gonna run more? Oh well.

Curry had a terrible game last night, but for the most part, the PG position has been serviceable this season. Not Caver or Freeman good, but sufficient (and I believe that Hunter is going to be very good.)

The biggest problems are the lack of offense inside and the fact that we do not have a lot of slashers (Caver, Stith). Thus we are limited to dribbling (too much) with a few passes along the perimeter and hoisting a contested 3 or wild floater in the paint. Dickens doesn't have the body weight to establish low post position, and Kalu can't stay on the floor because he can't stop fouling (sophomore slump). Carver is what he is, not much of an offensive threat. I like seeing Joe Reece starting to find his game, but he's not really a post guy. (Maybe the Greek guy and Oliver can give us the post presence and slasher that we need.)

Of course, when we do get good looks, we tend to miss those as well. How many open layups have we missed since the beginning of the JMU game? I think Green is struggling being the main focus of the other team's defense, and he's trying too hard and thinking too much. Godwin has shown flashes but it still trying to find his game stroke.

In short, I'm not surprised that we are struggling a little (well, a lot) so far. I just didn't expect to be looking up at JMU and Mason.

Mac, it’s funny you mentioned Wilson Washington. Last night in the second half I said to the guy in front of me, “Where is Wilson Washington when you need him?” That would have been the kind of game he would have dominated. But I know, that was a long time ago.

I was at the game last night and Dimitris didn't look anywhere close to being ready. Granted the layup line is a pretty short period of time but he was running really gingerly on that knee.
