We had a lucky blip. Honestly, it was by all accounts a roll of the dice. Nobody knew Fleck would do what he did. Good guidance got him the job, our own AD was against it from what I know.
Bottom line is, we couldn’t capitalize on a golden goose.....some programs do (Florida State sucked pre Bowden) and some dont. MAC schools are literally hamstringed. Almost impossible to have prolonged success in our region as a mid major. Just enjoy beating the crap schools we play and try to take the positive from The standout educational programs our school offers.....oh wait...they are average like many others....well hell, we are breathing.

Glory of the G5 is we usually have one of two problems.

1. Coach is awesome... wins a ton... moves on
2. Coach sucks... should be fired.

Problem is... #2 holds up too many smaller programs.

Move ON! Such is what’s happening here... Lester is a nice guy. recruits well... yadda yadda....

But when it comes down to it... we crap the bed. 3 years in we should win the EMU and NIU games this year....

I agree with this. But, 1 can become somewhat sustainable. If you become known for hiring awesome young coaches who have success and get bigger jobs, other young awesome young coaches want to come.

I'm fine that they hired Lester. But, I don't accept letting him be here for 5 years w/o any success. We are paying our HC a salary that comes with an expectation that we are an elite MAC program. The previous coach lived up to those expectations and exceeded them. The current coach is not.

I bet he can count to 12.

The sad thing is that this was a senior laden team, with seniors at many critical positions. If we were going to win a MACC under Lester, it should have been this season. All the cards aligned for this year.

Then, we bombed out at EMU and NIU and to a certain extent, Toledo. We couldn't win on the road. That is the crux of it.

As long as KB is at this University ... coaches like TL will be well entrenched. It's terrible.

Have a gut feeling the same is gonna happen with hockey this year mile high. I don’t think we will even make the ncaas again.

We are WMU fans... we are built to just live off of the "what might have been".... and its getting irritating.

Simon called a great game as interim OC for Minny in today’s game.

That's fine. But, once their QB went down, it created a wide open MAC West to win. Lester refused to take it.
