Coppin a win
Due to work, was not able to view or even listen to the game so came on here looking for a score and was amazed to find no thread......official or otherwise.
Looked in the mbb huskies @ cyclones and found no results.

So, if anybody cares, final score: NIU 81, Coppin State 69.

We talked about the game in the cyclones thread, Beane was definitely the story tonight

Beans and Scott had good games. Cochran hustled too. Good to see the newcomers playing hard. Coppin State was better than I thought. They just beat Loyola chicago too. I think a solid win. I agree it was a bit sloppy Now we have to rattle off a few wins. Good to get that first one out of the way though.

Yes they were better than I thought too....but their shooting was pretty bad. Athletic team, pretty good ball movement, just had some poor shooting.

NIU looked good overall, very fast paced game which I believe was the goal to get them in foul trouble as they had a thin bench and a couple guys get in foul trouble early and an injury. Therefore, I think the quick paced high turnover and many free throws was part of the strategy

RE: Coppin a win
Glad to get the win. I wasn't able to watch last night as there were some last minute family plans that arose pulling me away from the game. Typically, Friday nights are really chill and I would have watched. Anyway...

I'm happy for the win. I wasn't confident going in because I wasn't sure who was going to be playing. It's great to have McCarty back in there even it it was only 10 minutes. He'll be on the floor a major part of the game before long and they need his physical presence in the paint to be successful as a team. It also appears to me that Beane played well. I could see him as a starter soon. I presume that would be in place of Daow. Daow is much better suited as a 6th man off the bench anyway. I was expecting much more from Henry-Hayes this year and it's not looking like that's going to happen. And I'd still like to know what's going on with Justin Lee.

Anyway, gotta get some wins here in these next few games.

Scott seems to be a player......and boy, Rod Henry Hayes seems to be buried on the bench and the depth chart.

I watched most of the Coppin game, saw some good improvements with ball movement and defense. And yes, Beane seemed to make a very nice impact, as well as Scott getting more comfortable.

All depends on how this team develops, but seems to be like they will be competitive in the MAC. If they can actually develop enough and keep enough health to have a 10 man rotation? That makes a big difference.

Scott's skillset almost reminds me of a poor man's Levi Bradley.

Not only his skill set......his body type, his gait.....he just shoots with the other hand. Like Levi, Scott appears more comfortable outside. Just a shame that he’s a junior.....would like to see that body develop over a longer period of time.
