PJ and Novak aren't here any more. Wish PJ success at Minnesota. Wish Joe an enjoyable retirement. Now, how about Iowa state game tonight, Toledo game tomorrow night, wbb game Sunday? These are real events involving THE HUSKIES right now.

It's sort of the old adage...when you don't have anything nice to say... Talking about this years team is not fun. I'd love to analyze the Toledo game or the offense...whatever. I just can't find any good words for the team or staff and it gets old being critical. I even have a hard time talking about a single player doing well. Maybe Tucker, Ference or Richardson? Lets hope a good performance tomorrow gives us some things to discuss

Ference and Richardson both very solid so far. The law firm of Brinkman and Crawford doing pretty well, at least in the passing game. I thought Nettles had started to show some ability (though his ypc average doesn't show it) but he hasn't played much.

RB may be my biggest disappointment this year. I know the blocking has been subpar, but if there is one position where a player can make plays all on his own its at RB. The 3 guys are just really ordinary. Harbs is solid but never going to wow. Jones is as average as they get. Nettles has a little bit to him, just not enough. Im not sure our WRs aren't better than our RBs.

Yea I'd like to argue with you on that point, but I really can't. They need a playmaker there.

It might be due to the high and low expectations each position had, but head to head:
Tucker vs Harbs - Harbs by a little
Richie vs Nettles - Richie by a little
Tears vs Jones - in the battle of senior disappointments you go Tears

First, thank you very much for the clarification. Just so you know, I asked the question so I did not take your "old man...negative" statement out of context.

To me, it's somewhat sad that you would cast that on the person that is the single most point of reference when it comes to building the program we have had here over the past 20 years. And we will take that as gospel as your said it much like Joe had one line when asked about PJ.

Somewhere in the recesses of your mind--I am willing to bet, as you have been on here before---you probably have something good to say about Joe Novak---but since only one snippet was seen, we here have to take it as the truth.

I really didn't mean to start an avalanche here and truly appreciate your clarification.

I think our last 4 coaches all did good jobs and should be respected for having done so

Swag. This is the best response this far.

Joe Novak built a vision for the future.
Jerry Kill took us another level.
Dave Doeren took us even higher.
Rod Carey ran with the torch.
And I believe Hammock will break the mold that is MAC champion and get us out of the MAC.

Some media troll dredged this up looking for a new angle to a football game. They found this, hyped it, and now look who all is yakking about it all over the place. If Novak cares, he can pick up the phone. If Fleck cares, he can pick up the phone. They didn't, so it was not important for ... how long?

Best thing either one could have told the snoop was ... long time ago, doesn't matter now, life goes on. Same for us.

Excellent read on this pvk75

I'll have what he's having. Exactly, fact prior coaches and hope with Hammock, but I think we'll be happy in the near to semi-near distant future, 2 years. I also think Pettibone early on instilled believe with the first ever Big 10 win, Wisconsin. Other big wins during his tenure. He loved NIU, I like to think maybe Novak feed off of that, maybe. Many players are fond of Pettibone, there is merit for his early on mentioning's as NIU's greatest, knocked done a ton of first's.

Let us not forget the 1983 win over Kansas of Coach Bill Mallory's team, or it's California Bowl win, NIU's first as Div. 1-A.

Agree. I would argue that's about where NIU football took off, the hockey stick started there, or around that era, we had great early on coaches as well. NIU is special, wish our fans would realize there is a lot more, tradition. Maybe we don't "sell our tradition well enough?"
I don't have the slightest clue, but I know I'm a Huskie.

The Fresno St. annihilation. That opened my eyes to NIU football....I was in HS. It created quite a buzz that Saturday.

NIU football as it stands today sucks. But I believe Hammock is challenging the boys to do something they physically aren't capable of, and that's running a high scoring offense.

I like what I see with the recruiting. Hopefully these pieces can be what he needs to create a formidable offensive attack that's enjoyable to watch on weekdays and some Saturdays.

Or I could have guessed wrong, and he'll end up being a guy who is great at recruiting and sucks at coaching...a la Monty Montgomery....I hope not, I love this school and can only hope we become big enough to leave the MAC
