Temple-Delaware, Syracuse-Colgate, BC-Holy Cross: a lot of old rivalries were lost in the northeast. I think Rutgers had rivalries (or at least yearly games) with Lafayette, Lehigh, and an ancient one with Fordham.
We were in a conference (sort of) with Lehigh and Lafayette for 40+ years and those games were annual fixtures on our schedule.

We also played Princeton nearly every year until 1980. With the schools about 20 miles apart it could be a great rivalry and we should play them in a lot of Olympic sports. In a perfect world they woudl have been on our schedule for football this year.

The problem with UConn's former conference mates scheduling them in football is that we don't have that many OOC games to give and it will take a while for those spots to open up. UConn may have the available dates to schedule multiple Lambert schools at once but the rest of us don't.

Rutgers played Princeton in the first ever college football game and beat them Nov. 6, 1869. They played again at Princeton and lost.
Both schools have been awarded the National Championship for that year with split 1 and 1 seasons. 02-13-banana 02-13-banana 02-13-banana COGS COGS COGS 04-cheers

Did they throw a parade back then for winning the national title? And how did people attend games back then without cars? Would they ride their horse and watch via horseback?

Heard Cuse and WMU are involved in possibly helping out UConn. Cuse might open at The Rent the first week

Cuse at the Rent to open the home slate? That would be the best possible scenario for UCONN.

Also - both WMU and Syracuse happen to be hosting Colgate on 9/5 (WMU) and 9/19 (Syracuse)

That'd be consistent with what's previously been reported. They've currently got five home dates scheduled with three games left to reveal, and the Courant reported that there will be seven home dates. One of the three teams they're negotiating with is reported to be an ACC team. One of the remaining opponents seems very likely to be MTSU after signing the contract that breaks up the MTSU@Mississippi buy game with the stipulation that UConn schedule a game with MTSU, but the remaining two teams are unknown. It was assumed the remaining ACC team would likely be a one-off buy game (perhaps Virginia Tech after they called off the ECU series) and the unknown team would be a G5 program coming to Hartford, but hosting MTSU, hosting Syracuse, and playing at WMU would fit the descriptions that are already out there.

Horse and carriage ... or a bus, where a bus back then was a team of horses and a wagon with bench sets along each side of the wagon.

Also back then a "sports field" would be a field where you happened to be playing a sporting event. If, unlike Field of Dreams, the sport is played after the harvest of that crop is over, that's even more convenient.

Obviously if you took a carriage to the game, stopping it where you can see the field and "parking" the horses (that is, tying them up to a tree in a neighboring park, where they can wait in comfort) might be an option.

This is great news. I hope it happens.

This would definitely be welcome news.

MAC schools don’t play OOC games in November due to their commitments with ESPN for weeknight MACtion.

A WMU game will need to be in October.

Used that date because WMU has had a late November bye week the last 2 years. There are 2 open weeks in October if a game can be arranged between UConn and WMU on 10/3 or 10/17. 07-coffee3

Even like the move for us to play on Saturday. Very good scheduling wise so far.

UConn doesn't really have an excuse to play in Week 0, but if the NCAA is giving out waivers like candy, maybe they'll get one for that.

Playing Syracuse = the Candy for week zero. They don't get to play week 0 because they are UConn. They get to play week 0 because they might be playing Syracuse - a P5 team that will draw the eyeball candy out of the NYC television area which might give the NCAA some good ratings if the game is played that week. 05-stirthepot 05-stirthepot 05-stirthepot 03-shhhh 03-idea 04-cheers

I'm not guessing who. San Jose State showed up on the list, and that seemed to me to be out of nowhere.

But the key open dates:

10/3
10/17
11/7
11/21

I still think a 2nd FCS is likely (Hampton, Villanova, ...)

Middle Tennessee and Old Dominion each have 6 home games already and can probably fill one of those October dates visiting Connecticut. MTSU I think is the most probable, as they are already playing an FCS school.

Although USM, UAB and Air Force also have open dates, they are all but certain to fill those with FCS schools.

We'll know soon enough. My money is on MTSU and ODU.

Southern Miss has no open dates prior to 2023. We don’t announce our FCS opponents before the official schedule release because we often schedule in state opponents at reduced rates. If they can get more than the $225,000 we are paying them for a game, then they do so with our blessing.

I realize, that's why I put USM in the group with AF and UAB, expected to announce an FCS opponent. But they do "officially" have an open date still, so I mentioned them.

MTSU and ODU look like the best candidates, but you never know. UConn may be working on splitting some game listed on the schedule of two schools who have complete 12 game schedules. In which case they only really need one of MTSU or ODU to complete the schedule.

Well you can scratch ODU. They added Hampton to complete their schedule.

https://fbschedules.com/old-dominion-add...-schedule/

Middle Tennessee is the one remaining school that makes sense, as they have 6 home games already, an open slot, and September scheduled, meaning they can play an OOC game in October or November when UConn needs it. Don't know how UConn gets #11 and #12, but #10 seems likely to be MTSU.

The article also says there might be more changes to the schedule, which might mean something to do with UConn. Or maybe not.
