RE: FB Class of 2021
I would go with whatever coaching staff I felt most comfortable with, assuming the school is located in an area I wanted to live. That said, our coaching staff seems to be comprised of top-notch people both in terms of character and coaching ability. Coupled with the fact I am a life-long UC fan, I'd like to think I would be one of the guys staying home. OSU would be hard to pass up though if you're an elite recruit, and I like what I've seen/heard from Ryan Day as well. So I guess my list would go something like this:

1. Cincinnati
2. OSU
3. LSU (Orgeron seems like a fun guy to play for)
4. Clemson
5. Oklahoma

RE: FB Class of 2021
Sorry for the edits above. The more I thought about it, the more I started to come up with a more definitive list. For me, it would all be about the coaching staff and my ability to get to the NFL. I don't like Saban and have no desire to live in Alabama, so I couldn't see myself being interested in going there. Michigan would be a hard pass as well, because Harbaugh is an ass and doesn't develop guys like the other programs on my list.

For all the talk about "big fish, little pond" that comes with going to a small school, I'd actually find myself feeling that way at many of the powerhouses in college football. I mean, who else is a celebrity in Tuscaloosa besides Alabama football players? And from what I could gather, I wouldn't want to live in that city anyways.

So I'd probably limit myself to the better programs that are closer to major cities. USC and UCLA would be cool in that regard. Miami FL, as a college student, would be pretty incredible too.

To that player appeal point, don't forget what we're doing right in our own backyard in marketing the Queen City brand [we're not out in some cow pasture]...

Oh, another one I forgot; Colorado Boulder has a beautiful campus/stadium. The city might not be considered "major" by any means, but it would certainly be a fun location.

Almost every P5 is in some lame city or doesn't have a decent program.

You guys aren't thinking of this like an 17-18 year old football recruit. These guys want to go somewhere were they are going to win championships, have an opportunity to play on TV on a regular basis and enhance their opportunities to get to play on Sunday.

Alabama, although in a smaller setting, is desired because the high end recruits because they want to win national championship. Their facilities are top notch. The women down there are beautiful and throwing themselves at you.

Colorado doesn't even register. Its great if you are a hipster, but not for a top tier athlete. This isn't the late 80s and early 90s anymore--- despite being in a P5, that program is not "in it to win it".

Boulder was a hippie town into the 90s (I lived there then, and loved it), but it's decidedly not hipster. It's pretty much a highly educated, liberal tech hub now. Regardless, your point stands - recruits (by and large) aren't looking for great hiking trails, views and killer IPAs. They're looking for facilities and exposure, as well as an active campus life. We're no Alabama in that regard, but we can certainly compete with the likes of Colorado, Purdue, Oregon State, etc. in that regard.....

I get what other recruits are looking for, but we were talking about what our own individual schools would be. Even as a 17-18 receuit, I wouldn't have wanted to live in Tuscaloosa. Or any other SEC city, for that matter (Nashville excluded).

If I were 18 again, I may give an appendage to spend 4 years around campus in Tuscaloosa.

Small city, big time football player. You'd get laid any tike you wanted. Have everyone cater to you. This is simple. Not sure why people are having trouble understanding it. Nobody in Tuscaloosa is bigger than an Alabama football player except Saban.

I think you guys are getting too caught up on the, uh, female aspect of recruitment. D1 athletes are going to end up with the best looking girls on campus regardless of where they go to school. It doesn't matter if it's Bama or UC.

The Bama prestige has more to do with on-field success and professional connections. Alumni that are in the league, big donors, etc etc. And as it pertains to Rath's comment, I'm more curious what it is about the campus that's so appealing.

But in regards to the appeal of having good looking woman available, again, that's happens everywhere. Even at some D2 schools.

That said, I'm sure there are plenty of 18 year old recruits that think otherwise. I've just never felt that way myself.

RE: FB Class of 2021
I totally get why a recruit would want to go to Alabama. But it wasn't really that long ago that I was a senior in high school, and I just don't think they would have been near the top of my list if I had been in that position. Since I went to high school in a rural town and hated it, I think a city school like Cincinnati, OSU, USC, or Texas would have been far more appealing to me. That said, I was a marginal high school athlete so I never had to think about any of that.

RE: FB Class of 2021
tier 1
-coaching staff familiarity
-ability to get me to the NFL (though if you're good enough, any school can do that.)

tier 2
-facilities
-tradition and gameday atmosphere
-playing time
-weather

tier 3
-academics
-female "talent"

If I were an 18 year old recruit of someone like Kiner's status, this is how it'd play out for me in terms of importance which is why it'd come down to staying local and being a "hometown hero" or playing in the SEC at a school like LSU. The way I see it, like Cataclysmo said, the girls will find you no matter which campus you're on.

Not to kiss and tell, but I did very well in that department... that being said, the girls throwing themselves to a football star at Alabama is a different quality and quantity that what I had.

Just a couple off the top of my head...It’s the most gorgeous campus I’ve ever set foot on. The people are the most welcoming group I’ve ever been around as an outsider. The women...never mind...and the football...weekends...not just Saturday...Friday through Sunday where the entire town shuts down for one big tailgate... Fuhgeddabowdit.

The network of families is crazy...your kid’s car breaks down? Post something on the family page and Bama parents are racing to help them within an hour...

I love UC but there is no comparison, IMO. It’s a completely different breed of social experience.

I went to Alabama and echo this statement. The school is amazing and the student life is easily one of the best experiences of all time. I visited a ton of schools and Alabama was definitely the standout.
