kj has supposedly been dominant in practice so far...hunter said he established himself as a starter almost immediately, says everyone else is still battling for sport
lawson has 2 years eligibility hunter said he'd be shocked if he uses both, he'll be a 1 and done & in the NBA next season... the had an open practice last week and everyone said he was on another level than everyone else and tulanes roster (and tulanes roster is full of starting grad transfers from other school)

same could be said about charlie moore who also transferred to and out of KU like lawson last season..he was doing like 24 a game for depaul in their foreign tour
Regarding KJ. He's not One and Done, he's going into his 4th year of college.
The jury will be out on all of these new players. I personally don't buy into Juco's anymore. We had some All-American Jucos recently, as well as the #1 Juco Center during Pastner's era, a few under Cal and literally 2 of them panned out. I was in the same boat. Hoping and praying that they would work out and even arguing with other Memphis fans about them being ridiculous for doubting them.
Transfers are iffy. Some workout. Some don't. A lot of the time (not all), they don't turn into stars. Contributors are about the avg.
Freshmen are iffy as well. Even Kentucky, Duke and so on who get these top recruits go through rough periods throughout the season. Sometimes they are dominant, and sometimes they don't gel until midseason. So we'll see with them.

i don't think the list was arranged by votes..or that would mean wiseman was 4th place in voting
the coaches voted him anywhere from 6 to 11... also vital was also 6-11.. i have him 23 on my list
Honestly, Igbanu's probably high. I'd put him closer to 25, but I'd also put a couple more Tulsa players on the list.

Igbanu i ranked on multiyear production and coach interviews ..haith fully expects to make the tournament and is completely basing it off the strength of Igbanu, every interview with haith there is a 5 min section dedicated to how good Igbanu is and how he is 1st team all conference caliber 4 year starter..
hurley also called him an all conference player when he was previewing the aac on a podcast
with that said, a ton of players have the ability to shoot up if thy play well (like keyshawn) martins is probably at his ceiling for a conference rank even if he has a great season

Just like KJ, Charlie Moore will put up high counting stats because he will have a high usage percentage on a really bad team.

this coming season will be Houston's first year where its not mostly a juco roster...the last 4 years were all 80% juco rosters, and houston finished top 3 all 4
my take: elite juco guards normally workout (id sad 3 out of every 4)...just shaved 6-10pts of their juco stats, and 6-10% of their 3pts percentage ..22pt 46% from 3 in juco guard id expect 14pts 38% from 3...obviously there are exceptions to this rule
juco bigs is a complete crap shoot .. with a high disappointment rate

also most AAC POY are transfers
The makeup of the league was so similar though. We all had a lot of that going on.

#3- The Final preseason edition
In celebration of media day (seasons around the corner) decide to rank the AAC top 50 players. a few sites are doing this for other conferences, pretty sure no one is doing this for the AAC... so why not
This is a preseason list; there will undoubtbly be a 3* freshman to blow up or some deep bench from last season who will play big with the guys in from on them gone.. hard to justify them in a preseason list today
hierarchy of importance
- production last season (in current team, and quality of that team)
- projected impact for coming season (within the team and amount of wins)
- production last season (at another college, quality of that team/conference)
- recruit ranking for freshman
- preseason coach's hype/tour production
*This is solely based on next season, not long term potential
The AAC Top 50
1 James Wiseman -MEMPHIS - top recruit
2 Jarron Cumberland -CINCINNATI
3 Dejon Jarreau -HOUSTON
4 Alexis Yetna -South Florida
5 Quinton Rose -TEMPLE
6 Quentin Grimes -HOUSTON via Kansas (waiver*)
7 Martins Igbanu -TULSA
8 Precious Achiuwa -MEMPHIS - top recruit
9 David Collins -South Florida
10 Alterique Gilbert -UCONN
11 Laquincy Rideau -South Florida
12 Jaime Echenique -WICHITA
13 NPL -TEMPLE

15 Nate Hinton -HOUSTON
16 Jayden Gardener -ECU
17 Dexter Dennis -WICHITA
18 Josh Carlton -UCONN
19 DJ Jeffries -MEMPHIS - top recruit
20 KJ Lawson -TULANE via Kansas
21 Tre Scott -CINCINNATI
22 Ethan Chargois -SMU
23 Christian Vital -UCONN
24 Collin Smith -UCF
25 Fabian White -HOUSTON
26 Damion Baugh -MEMPHIS - top recruit
27 Isiaha Mike -SMU
28 Boogie Ellis -MEMPHIS - top recruit
29 Zach Harvey -CINCINNATI - top recruit
30 Jeriah Horne -TULSA
31 Lester Quinones -MEMPHIS - top recruit
32 Dazon Ingram- UCF via Bama
33 Darius McNeill -SMU via Cal (waiver*)
34 Monty Scott -TEMPLE via Kennesaw State
35 Jaevin Cumberland -CINCINNATI via Oakland
36 Ray Ona Embo -TULANE
37 Tyson Jolly -SMU via Juco
38 Kendric Davis -SMU via TCU (waiver*)
40 Reggie Jones -TULSA via Western Michigan
41 Tyler Harris -MEMPHIS
42 Matt Milon -UCF via William & Mary
43 Feron Hunt -SMU
44 Jamarius Burton -WICHITA
45 Tremont Robinson -ECU via Juco
46 Akok Akok -UCONN - top recruit
47 Yuat Alok -UCF via TCU/Juco (mid-year eligibility)
48 Michael Durr -South Florida
49 James Bouknight -UCONN - top recruit
50 Trey Wade -WICHITA via Juco
Justed missed the top 50/ or wanted to rank but hard to justify at this point Kevin Zhang (Tulane) Tyson Etienne (Wichita) Caleb Mills (Houston) Ceasar DeJesus (UCF) Zach Dawson (USF/Transfer) Seth Leday (ECU)
if you want any justification for any of the rankings let me know
How exactly is Seth Leday from ECU left off of a top 50 AAC list?
He was 30th in the league in scoring (11.0 ppg) last year; 17th in rebounding (5.8 rpg); 10th in offensive rebounds per game (2.2 per game); 7th in field goal percentage (52.9%); 9th in steals (1.4 per game) and 13th in blocked shots (.8 per game).
Leday did all of that and he was not even in the top 30 in the league in minutes played per game last year where he only played 24.9 minutes per game.
I think Igbanu is well placed. For an undersized (6’8”) center he has outplayed numerous larger players the last three years and will be the keystone of this year’s team.
I also think Horne is a little low. He was very productive last year as a 6th man although he did it quietly and without flash. In fact he played much better than I expected. I fully expect him to be a starter this year and I expect him to surprise many with his shooting, rebounding, and defense.
I hope Jones is as good as you predict. His freshman production would indicate yes, his sophomore production makes him a question mark. Looking at his stats and his team I think he felt pressured to carry the team his second year and being surrounded by better players may allow him to get back into his comfort zone and shoot 3s at the 40+% he’s capable of. Having a sit out year in the system can’t hurt either.
I think that Temple may be under-estimated on this list.
Rose is apparently 1st team pre-season AAC and NPL 2nd team.
James "Monty" Scott is ranked much lower on this list, but he has shown signs of potentially being as good or better than Rose and NPL. Depending on how the season goes, I wouldn't be surprised to see Rose, NPL, and Scott all being 1st, 2nd, or 3rd team all-AAC.
A couple of Temple players might turn out to be top 50 athletes. J.P. Moorman has all the tools to be an outstanding PF, and he may emerge during his Junior year as a great all-around player in that position, shouldering more of the burden as an upper-class-man for the first time.
Justyn Hamilton is a very athletic big man with great scoring ability. He could emerge as a budding star player if he can improve his rebounding and defense/shot blocking. He is extremely agile, and should be able to master these skills this or next season.
Temple also has a freshman player, Damian Dunn, who won't see much action until holiday season, but he has a great skill set, and will surprise a lot of people, though he'll be a back up SG & Wing behind Temple's 3 top guards/wing.

I like LeDay, and if fully healthy I'd be arguing hard about him. However, even if he's practicing (which I don't think he's actually fully cleared yet) it's impossible to know if he's going to have the same explosiveness. Right now I'd take Baruti over him, mostly because I think they are similar athletes and Baruti can shoot.

40 Reggie Jones is a 6'6 guard, who averaged double digits on teams better than ECU (rpi 157 & 179) vs a 6'7 PF on the 271th rpi
mainly ranked him becuase he sat out last year and practiced and Haith said he was every bit as good as Daquan jeffries (who is currently in the NBA/all conference player)
41) tyler harris was a top 80 recruit according to rivals..that top 25 baylor desperately wanted, and was a freshman all conference last season..going into his sophomore year https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2...arris-4653
42 ) matt milon, 6'5 sharp shooter (top 40 grad transfer according to ESPN) with tons of offers from Virginia tech, seton hall, illionois, creighton, and more...already named a captain on UCF, 1 of 2 new players invited to media day ...again 184 rpi vs 271rpi...
leday is a undersized 6'7 power forward on a really bad team with no shooting capability (to play a stretch 4) with most of his production coming from your really bad ooc...i dont mean to offend but almost every coach is taking the 3 guys i named above over him..
and i remember burton committing as it was late.. vcu, temple, LaSalle were on him hard when he committed.. im not sure who passed on who but he was drastically more touted than everyone in your class last season..you picked up 2 unknowns that had no offers or rating and then kicked them out a year later, ya'll were desperate ..dooley doesnt even deny this..makes me think he passed on you...

Second of all we saw Tyler Harris play last year. Remember? He is an undersized ball hogging point guard that almost shot Memphis out of as many games as he kept them in. On top of that Memphis was barely able to beat that sucky ECU squad from last year on the two occasions that the schools played. The kid was alright, but I can not say that he was as good as that other midget point guard (Lomax) that Memphis had or that freshman guard that transferred (Jones).
Additionally, rankings are always arbitrary and I understand that, but what I don't understand is how you all can state that Leday's and Gardener's numbers are due to them being on a sucky team; or that the JUCOs that ECU are bringing in this year have to prove themselves at the AAC level. But then you guys will turn right around and anoint some transfer from a lower conference as a future top player in the AAC. How is that possible to do? Leday's and Gardeners numbers were at least against legit AAC competition, but those transfers you guys are anointing as future AAC stalwarts numbers were accumulated against lower level programs. Those guys did not play against AAC level competition game in and game out. So how do you know how those guys will really do in a stronger league against better athletes and competition? Because we already know what to expect from Leday.
Finally, Leday is not a power forward and Gardener is not a center. Leday and Gardener were forced to play out of position last year, because ECU was so small. This year they will be able to play their normal positions at the 3 and 4.

FYI, Seth Leday is back is practice and the rumors coming from the practices is that Bitumba Baruti is a really good player too.
you have to add the quality of the team into the equation..
my biggest deciding factor on how to rank was , if a nuetral coach was drafting players for 1 season only who would they take in what order
no one coach is taking leday over anyone in the top 50..
46 Akok Akok -elite recruit..
47 Yuat Alok - former #1 juco player in 2018
48 Michael Durr - 7feet 250lb center
49 James Bouknight - top100 4star, coaches say he wont pay all 4 years
50 Trey Wade - best player for wichita during scrimmage (had a florida offer)
What Coach would take 40, 41, 42 and 44 over Leday? ECU passed on 44 so there is that too.
41 tyler harris was a top 80 recruit according to rivals..that top 25 baylor desperately wanted, and was a freshman all conference last season..going into his sophomore year https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2...arris-4653
Leday's and Gardeners numbers were at least against legit AAC competition, but those transfers you guys are anointing as future AAC stalwarts numbers were accumulated against lower level programs. kj has supposedly been dominant in practice so far...hunter said he established himself as a starter almost immediately, says everyone else is still battling for spots
lawson has 2 years eligibility hunter said he'd be shocked if he uses both, he'll be a 1 and done & in the NBA next season... the had an open practice last week and everyone said he was on another level than everyone else and tulanes roster (and tulanes roster is full of starting grad transfers from other school)
"He was an inefficient, high usage rate player on a bad {Cal} team and an inefficient, low minute reserve for an inconsistent KU team."
same could be said about charlie moore who also transferred to and out of KU like lawson last season..he was doing like 24 a game for depaul in their foreign tour
i don't have a dog in the fight but that's a clear example of coach speak and it's most certainly the case with ron hunter

it says your old staff stopped recruiting him....not dooley
i have my issues with tyler harris thats why he is the lowest ranked all freshmen..but he was still a touted recruit, who was all freshmen voted by the coaches..
the other memphis freshman didn't get that vote..penny yesterday said he isn't sure they'll start all freshman ..(alluding to harris)...
im not debating him being elite but any non biased person is taking harris over leday

about ecu
Bitumba Baruti did 11pts/per in juco, tyrie jackson did 8pts/per in juco... that isn't the same as doing 11pts on 150-ish rpi D1 team,..
im also clearly docking the lower levels transfers, i left off quite a few transfer ..and jaevin and monty scott aren't in the 30's if i legitimately thought they could do 18pt/per here...there are quite a few sub 10pt returning players i ranked above them
it'd be hard to justify any ranked players for unranked ecu without showing bias.. atleast right now..who knows at the end of the season
