Men's hockey.
Only watched the first period of our 2-1 win over Union but it was enough to realize that their play-by-play guy is the laziest guy in college hockey broadcasting. He knew NONE of our players names! When Union was rushing he named each Union player as passes were made. When we brought the puck up ice it was, "and here comes NU" or, "NU breaks out" or, "NU breaks up ice" etc, etc. etc. The thing is, I don't know the newcomers numbers so when 13 or 4 made a nice play I had to look at our roster because the lazy PBP guy hadn't bothered to do his homework.

RE: Men's hockey.
Wasnt able to watch but seems like we took over about half way through the game. Hopefully we will be able to put a few more in the net tonight.
Union probably isnt that good but they are probably decent, and for our first game of the season it's great to get a win against a team that already had a couple games to mesh.

That sounds about right. I only saw the first period and they didn't look good....especially the lazy pass that a Union skater picked off right in front of our net for their only goal.

RE: Men's hockey.
The funniest thing about the Leario penalty was what the announcers said. After Estes threw his stick away Leario reached down and pushed the Union's players head with an open glove. The announcers kept saying that Estes was punched and that Estes had done nothing wrong by throwing Leario stick across the ice when either delay of game or unsportsmanlike conduct would apply.

RE: Men's hockey.
To be fair, neither action should have been a penalty, but Union especially did nothing. For all the lack of research the Union announcers did on our players I do think they were fair and unbiased when it came to team evaluations and penalties and all that.
Overall it was kind of a wishy washy game. I turned it on half way through the 2nd. I'm worried because other than the Hughes goal and a Solow shot in the slot on the PP, I saw no great scoring chances by us. Though it did look like we had a couple in the 1st. Going to be a real test against UMass. We need Matthews to be rocking.

Do you agree with the announcers that Leario "punched" Estes?

He 'mushed" his face. Not a punch. Over exaggeration by those announcers IMO.

"Mushed" is the word I was trying to think of!

RE: Men's hockey.
#14 NU picks up a nice 3-1 win over #4 UMass in the home opener Tuesday night at Matthews Arena.
Goalie Craig Pantano made 34 saves and got 2nd-period goals freshman Mike Demelis, Soph. Jordan Harris and an empty-netter from Zach Solow for the win.
NU, who is off to a 3-0 start, host Holy Cross on Saturday.
We have 11 freshmen, so there will be some ups and downs. But they're very talented.

Yeah. They really showed flashes of what they might grow into later in the season.

Latest national pole dance of the young season: (USCHO & USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine)
Men move up from #15 to #11 in both polls (would certainly have been top ten without the tie vs Holy Cross)
Women hold at #3 in both polls.

Sounds like they really bounced back from the 2-2 tie at Holy Cross.

The tie was at Matthews Arena.
If they can sweep this series it would be huge.
