Again. Because you ignored it, as have others:

Quote:According to the suit filed Monday in King William County, using the male pronouns would have "violated" Vlaming's "conscience" and went against his religious beliefs, so he called the student by his preferred name during class and avoided using pronouns altogether.

How does using the preferred pronoun of an individual go against a person's religious beliefs? Is there some kind of Bible clause on pronoun usage in 2019 for a trans man or woman?

funny you say that, because we all know you have ignored a certain bet too... 07-coffee3

Same. That's what I've been waiting for as well.

I don't get the religious aspect of this..but..I see nothing he did as being grounds for dismissal. He just used the students given name and not the pronouns. He was fired for not saying something. That just crazy.

Bad analogy. This is more like someone named Robert. Teacher calls them Robert, they say, no, I prefer to be called Bob. So the teacher called them Bob. He used their preferred name as they wished.

It infringes an intelligence to look at a human with a ****** and breasts and call them he to the same level it would to look at a cat and call it a dog.

RE: Teacher fired for refusing to use wrong pronoun
This is scary.

I interviewed a person who identifies as non-binary. "They", the individual's preferred pronoun, changed some of my questions. Instead of asking "As sisters" I changed the question to "as siblings".

While not hard, it is so easy to trip this type of questioning. Why should communicating be so hard? Why am I put on notice how to communicate if I am not trying to disrespect this person? Ultimately, this is the challenge. Most of us will work with others as we can and until it creates a burden on us.

there's a reason I never gave thought to your field of 'inquiry'...

Freedom of religion by definition is not about proving it to other people. If this person feels that it is, then according to his religious beliefs, there is. I don't ascribe to this, but given that there is clear conversation about gender and pronouns are used and no mention of trans-gendered, it's not as big a stretch as you seem to want to make it. Again, I don't ascribe to it, but freedom of religion only needs an earnestly held belief.

(10-02-2019 11:03 AM)TrueBlueDrew Wrote:  I mean, when you call someone by their name and they say “oh I actually go by -nickname-” you don’t keep calling them by their first name just to spite them do you?

Bad example because that's exactly what happened. Her name was Robin and she asked to be called Bob so he did. (not correct names, but you know what I meant). While many names are traditionally associated with gender, I know women named Sam and men named Leslie.... It's just a name. A pronoun is a recognition/acceptance of a gender. Again, while I don't personally ascribe to it, I could easily see a religion being perfectly willing to allow Robin to go by the name of Bob and to do whatever with whomever, but not be willing to participate in accepting that Robin wants them to accept 'her' as a male. God made her a man, so she's a man, regardless of hormone therapy or gender reassignment or whatever else 'man' has done. Again, not my position, but one I can very easily see. Your position seems to imply that you can't even fathom a religion that believes that God is 'perfect' and thus His will is identified through a birth gender and not the result of surgery and chemicals. It's not hard for me to see at all... even though I don't follow it.

This.

While I certainly wouldn't intentionally disrespect someone, they shouldn't intentionally disrespect me either. If they tell me they want to be called 'they', I will do what I can to be respectful, but I have decades of education and habit that goes against that request. If I mess up, accept it as an honest mistake and move on. It could also be that while I respect your right to want that, you should (as in my example above) accept someone's right to see it as 'against His will' and thus insulting to his religion and religious beliefs. Seems to me the teacher here made a respectful compromise. Had he instead insisted on referring to her as he, that would have been no different than when we were kids calling a boy a girl. It was disrespectful and even though often in jest, an intentional act of disrespect.

are you fk'n serious?

the real argument is about being force-fed additional descriptors that are illogical, yet carry consequence relative to the 1st...

he simply gave 'em the finga using 'unfair bias'...

it would be akin to how most view those that welch....

but ya man....keep fighting for more legalese bs that is worthless in scope....

Do people with multiple personality disorder have the right to be referred to in the plural? If so that lends to a lot of confusion for leadership that likes to use the Royal "We". It could prove problematic for even the Dem leadership since they like their assumed royalty.

My suggestion for the French teacher is to call them all "you". It can be singular or plural and has no gender attached.

Now what do "you" liberals think?

I never learned French, it's a whiny slurred language. At least in German you have "das" which is neuter.

except in french, even many words have genders. You're talking about a potential major shift in languages.

In German the article determines gender or lack thereof, but depending upon how the noun is used it can alter the spelling of other words.

There's just no end to this. And the once apt descriptors which were dictionary certified are now all called hate speech when you use them.

I was being serious when I said they should just start referring to all students as "you". Or perhaps as Jame Gumb referred to his victims, "It, puts the dog in the basket." It's all about that sick. Just a bunch of losers looking for a way to be special.

I believe you are being disingenuous. You make it sound like Matthew prefers to be called Matt and no one wants to call him that. However, it is more like Matt, who has been called that his whole life and who everyone knows by Matt, now wants to be called Sally.
