If the D's have any sense whatsoever they'll concentrate on health care. However ,I don't think their collective TDS will allow them to think rationally.

Healthcare? They're still pushing the Oblunder fiasco. How far can they go with that. Maybe from those that don't pay taxes but those people are not working and probably don't even go out to their front yards to mow the lawn. They won't vote...and thank God for that.

Personally, I think they're just to afraid of embracing liberalism. They also have no spine, the DNC leaders have mostly been worthless with no killer instinct.

And this is nothing new really. It's been a problem for several years now. Obama overcame it because we was the right candidate at the right time...and he also knew how to create a great ground game. There's no Axelrod's running any campaign right now. We'll see what happens when a final candidate emerges. God help them if it's Biden. His day has long since gone. He had a shot last time around had he ran. I think we're seeing now why he didn't.

Who is “they”? I mean, are you talking about the presidential candidates? The House and Senate? Neither, both?

In 30+ years of following national politics, I’ve never known a time when the National Committee set the tone for either of the two main parties. That’s simply not what they are for. But since you mentioned “the DNC leaders”, I’ll just chip in that Tom Perez has been almost hysterically aggressive. If he had any more of a “killer instinct” towards Trump he’d get a visit from the Secret Service.

Nobody had heard of Axelrod, either, at this point of the 2008 campaign.

And I agree that Biden would be a disaster if a nominee. Lucky for Team Blue, that reality is becoming sufficiently obvious in time to go in a different direction.

But all of these factors, separately and together, IMHO, do not really address your core-point of why the Democrats have “no leadership or a winning message.”

I'm mostly talking about the leadership of the DNC itself, but if you watched the Lewandowski charade at all yesterday, you saw exactly what I mean. That guy should have been taken into custody by the SAA!
