RE: Gameday Thread: Miami vs. Cincy
Nice bounce back win. I know it was only Indiana but OSU continues to look impressive, which reinforces that I’m not going to put too much emphasis on our loss to them.
Ridder still makes me extremely nervous. He is probably good enough that we win a decent amount of games, but eventually we have to take the next step and I’m just not seeing enough from him to make me think he is capable of leading us to the next level.
Defense seems to get off to a slow start each week before making adjustments and becoming really good. Hope they continue to improve as well. Still a lot of young guys playing a lot of snaps, which bodes well for the future.

And gets into shape. He is carrying a gut on him. Biggest gut on a runningback since Hosey Williams.

It was a good win. VEry slow start - they need to get that fixed. Offensive line is an issue. Still - 14 in a row.

Line did play much better in the second half after benching Metz and putting McConnell at RT but I do think line is a work in progress

The FG kicking or lack thereof is going to cost this team a couple games this year. Ridder still is not blowing anyone away, I would not be surprised to have another startimg QB for next season.
Was Surprise that in garbage time we did not give our field goal kicker a couple of kicks. Instead of going for it near the goal line. We’re gonna need him at some point. Need to build his confidence in these blowouts.
What is coach’s strategy? Anyone know? Is he not hitting them under pressure in practice? So he needs to do that first?

Do we get AAC refs, for the first time this year, at Marshall?

Miamuh was a little yappy in the first half.
Second half... developed a case laryngitis.

Late in the game instead of going on 4th I wish Fick had tried a FG to give Croza a chance to help his confidence. I guess Fick did not want to be seen a running up the score?

I watched the kicker struggle to make kicks during the half, when no one was in front of him. He was barley clearing the field goal post. He’d take his steps back, take a long deep breath, then barley poke it over, if it even went through.

The Enquirer headline:
"Ridder, Warren power UC football past Miami".
I thank them for their attention to detail in case some were wondering if UC played Miami in water polo today.

it doesn't matter what the sport is. The same doom and gloom guys think the world is ending at the start of every game. UC goes on to win. Hopefully EMT's weren't called to some of those fans homes. haha.

Ridder is thinking way to much out there. He was much more effective when he was not expected to be the man. To many plays he's tentative whether it's a pass or run. He needs to just play. Also, someone needs to explain to him how the option play works and why angles give the offense the advantage on a pitch. If he'd given the ball up to Warren like he should have instead of almost tackling him, Warren would have had a nice gain. Again, just thinking way to much. Can't worry about making a play on every touch. Marshall will be interesting as they will definitely come after him. Physical team. Will be an interesting match up.

Pretty complete thrashing of MU today. How much do their donors throw at that AD?

I think some of us are seeing problems that make getting to 6 or 7 wins a challenge. Oline, QB, and lack of explosiveness and consistent play makes it to hard buy this team can score enough to hang with the top offenses in conference.
Defense is actually good but lacks some the biggest play makers from last season. Can they hold up with all the injuries?
FG kicking is a bad joke and I afraid that it could cost UC in a close game.
The schedule is brutal. At Marshall, UCF, at Houston, Temple, and at Memphis are games that UC will be an underdog or maybe a slight favorite. Those are legit teams that can beat UC if they don’t clean things up.
I like the coaching staff, the overall depth, and bunch of individual players. I am not ready to give up on this group but they better win at Marshall or things are going to get ugly.

I think the key is straightening out the offensive line issues. I really didn't expect the O-Line to be this bad. But if this continues I agree that 6 or 7 wins is a real possibility.

Deguara was wide open nearly the whole game. Ridder looked right at him one play and instead threw a pass to the side. Deguara was getting frustrated because Miami could not cover him.
Ridder does not seem as confident this year. Hopefully it was just a tough game for him.

Des struggles seeing the field making throws between the hash marks if front of the safeties. Good making throws in the flat, out, corner, go routes.
