RE: ODU adds game at Liberty to 2023 schedule
There are many universities in this country that have practices I don’t agree with but I wouldn’t avoid playing them in sports.

They are, just not Lynchburg. I've been through a few times on my way to Charlottesville and Shenandoah NP.

Lynchburg isn't terrible, but I also spent a year an hour south in Danville, which makes Lynchburg look like Austin/Seattle/Asheville/Manhattan/whatever your idea of a fun and happening city is.

Not a fan of Lynchburg. It's grown a lot (due largely from the school) so there's plenty of restaurants, etc. but the layout is awful to drive around and it seems like most of the really awful stories in the region come out of Lynchburg. The surrounding area is pretty though. You're kind of in the foothills of the BRM's.

I'm fine with the game though. It's an hour from my house so, yeah I'm down.

Not a lot happening in Danville

It didn't help that downtown Lynchburg's development seemed to ignore, rather than exploit, the James River for a long time.

Thank you for posting that link, Nugget. It was very interesting and pretty much confirms what I've heard about the school's leadership for some time.
As has been posted in this thread, I'm certainly not advocating that Universities consider philosophies, religions, politics etc when they schedule or don't schedule games, but with all this about Liberty out in the national spotlight it's got to have an effect on those decisions.

Don't agree with this. Never will. Are we not on equal or better footing than Liberty? Feels like whoring the program out. But apparently fits our Modus- Operandi. We raised 16 million for athletics last year, Harry told me, why are we doing this?

Sounds like a bunch of jealous and whiny employees. I read around half of it before I quit.

We have public Universities out here promoting drag shows and stuff. No surprise liberal politico and others are trying to bash a Christian University. You know what, Liberty is now my second favorite team/school. I'm happy to know that there's another Christian University on the rise. Go (never mind I don't even know their mascot yet, but I assure you I will watch every game from here on out as long as it doesn't conflict with a Marshall game.)

Yeah other than bringing in some additional dough i do not see a reason why we should be playing these Falwell Fuckups or may be the admin sees this as an opportunity for saving some travel money.

A lot of people feel the same way you do. Liberty really bothers liberals. I will support them for that reason. Ha

The thing you guys aren’t getting is that a bunch of people that actually support the school aren’t happy with the leadership.

Yes, indeed. It’ the reason CUSA did not accept their buy-in offer. Those in Virginia are well aware of the issues/conflict-of-interest with Jerry Falwell U/Liberty. They have amassed incredible wealth via their on-line programs and invited a god-fearing Christian candidate to speak at their school who doesn’t know the difference between “two” and “second” Corinthians.

I’m with herdfan. And there’s always another side to the story.

You guys sure are owning the libs. I anxiously await herdfan breaking down all future Liberty Flame games that don't interfere with Herd games. herdfan is now a Liberty whatever they're called(Flames) fan all in the name of giving those crazy libs their comeuppance. At least now I know who to ask about all things Flame football.

The name of Liberty’s athletic teams is the “Flamers.”

Charlotte went 20 years unhappy with our leadership. I would take $800,000 eight days a week. And ain't no difference in one school talking about God, and another school dancing with the devil.

RE: ODU adds game at Liberty to 2023 schedule
My hangup with the game has nothing to do with Liberty as an educational institution or the political stands it takes or anything remotely related to either. I’ve long been a proponent of playing Liberty in football (I always thought JMU would be our in-state FBS rival, but plans change). And h*ck, the basketball team’s gotten pretty good, add them to the schedule too!

But my feeling is that ODU (or any other G5 program) shouldn’t be taking multiple buy games with Liberty, or any other non-P5 game. $800,000 isn’t wallet money, but a program that can get Virginia Tech, UNC, N.C. State and Wake Forest to play them in home-and-homes can get a better john that’ll pay a higher rate for the privilege of playing on their field. Would UTSA take a buy against Texas State? Louisiana Tech against Tulane? UAB against South Alabama?

Money’s money, I suppose, but I also think who you take it from sends a message. It’s not about taking money from Jerry Jr.’s school. It’s about taking money from a school that was in the Big South in all sports like three years ago.

I was shocked at this game. A positive is maybe you get your money and the win.

I find it interesting that Liberty would be able to buy a FBS game. Seems stupid that the Sun Belt did not want them.
