That was a lousy, horrible game between two bad teams.
Things like discipline and fundamentals were totally lacking last night.

Problem is, Hawaii itself isn't much of a football brand. It's not like they are Michigan.
Hawaii used to get decent crowds back in the WAC days. I don’t keep up with them anymore so I’m not familiar with their situation after their 2007 undefeated season. All I know is they’re building a new stadium.
I have been waiting for Aloha Stadium to fall down since I was involved in a case in 1996 against Carboline Corporation. That company's Pyrocrete cementitious fireproofing material leached chlorides and ate structrual steel. I mean huge holes in steel.
During discovery, we found out that Carboline knew this since 1981 and buried that information.
We also found out that Pyrocrete was applied to things like nuclear power plants, chemical plants and......Aloha Stadium.
They ended up paying a $23 million dollar settlement in our case because Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge used Pyrocrete, found huge holes in its structural steel and had to tear down the place in sections and re-do it.
So...every game at Aloha Stadium I have watched since then, I have half expected a major collapse during the game.
Anyway, I am glad that Hawaii is getting a new stadium and hopefully doesn't install Pyrocrete.

The NCAA allowed it to commemorate the 150th anniversary of college football.
Don't be surprised when ESPN asks the NCAA to allow another big Week Zero game next season...

yep, and next year it's more of an advantage where rather of getting only 1 bye week next year, it'd be 2 bye weeks. (this year it's getting 3 bye weeks instead of 2).

Whatever gives us more P5 college football games.
I'm not interested in watching small fan bases who want to boycott the P5.

just looked and the 4.1 overnight for ESPN in 2016 translated to about 5.7 million viewers. Just outside the top 10 for the season. It'll be interesting to see how it translates to # of viewers for this year.

saw they got 5.97 million viewers for the game. Pretty darn good. Won't finish top 10, but will be pretty close- in the top 15 probably.
Think it's a lock we see another P5 game like this next year.

yeah. Great way to kick off the season. And think if the game wasn't so regional- the rating may even get higher. Especially in a year like next year where the game would be on Aug 29(next year Labor Day is as late as it ever can be).

The only neutral site game already scheduled for 2020 that fits that is Alabama vs. USC, which would have to be moved from week one to week zero. Of course ESPN could help juggle several teams' schedules to accommodate a game that hasn't yet been scheduled.
Notre Dame vs. Navy is already set for August 29, 2020 in Ireland, but the time difference means that game will have an early afternoon start on the US east coast.

Didn’t realize it was so late. To be honest I wish they’d just go ahead and move the whole season up a week and let that be week one. But I guess it’s a bit late for that as conferences and teams have already begun finalizing schedules
