RE: Predict the CFP G5 end-of-year standings
Not that we’ll be able to actually pull this off, but just a question for everyone on here.
Marshall is in a **** league (trust me we hate it).
AAC/MWC clearly #1&2 in my mind. The other 3 prob even enough.
Despite what most of the stupid talk show hosts reference when they speak about BYU, Army, and which of the “most deserving” or “strongest scheduled” or “who played the most P5 opponents” G5 team will take the Access Bowl spot, we know the rules, and it’s going to come down to 1 of the 5 conference champs taking that spot.
So as a hypothetical here, let’s say Marshall wins CUSA.
We play on our schedule this year:
@ Boise State
Vs Cincy
Vs Ohio
If those three teams (who are all listed as tops as conference contenders in their respective leagues) win their conferences, win every game on their schedule with their only loss to The Herd, and Marshall wins the rest of their games as well (or even has 1 stupid loss along the way so they’ll end up with identical W-L record of 12-1). Marshall would hold on the field tie-breakers with each of those three teams, without playing a single P5 team. And they likely may not have the highest ranking at the end of the year compared to those teams, coming from a crappy league schedule.
Who gets the nod? Would the committee ignore games played on the field?
Just food for thought as we all enter the next few months of hearing the 5 min a day they spend on G5 programs, speaking incorrectly about how the access Bowl spot would be chosen.
I in no way expect any of this to come to fruition, as Doc has shown he always lays an egg. Then we go to a bowl game and he dominates.

In your perfect storm scenario if Boise, Cincy and Ohio all won their respective CCG games and Marshall won theirs, I would think Marshall gets the bid. I would not wager anything on that happening.
