What is fake news?

trump DID promise an additional tax cut before the mid-terms that never happened, nor was EVER going to happen.

This was not about the actual tax reform bill that was passed and signed into law on 12/22/17.

Quote:President donald trump has promised a new middle-income tax cut plan to land days before the midterm election, a move aimed at boosting his party’s chances of holding its Congressional majorities -- yet Republican tax policy-makers know nothing about it.

Party leaders were caught off-guard by trump’s comments, made Saturday after a rally in Nevada, that “we’re looking at a major tax cut for middle income people,” and that House Republicans, including Speaker Paul Ryan, are working on a possible bill.

trump’s surprise announcement came as the fight to control Congress intensifies in the final weeks before the mid-term election. Republicans had hoped the landmark tax overhaul last year would help carry them to victory in the midterms. But the policies -- widely viewed as having mainly helped corporations and the wealthy -- are turning out to be less popular than they thought.

RE: Have you received your fake tax cut? Still waiting?
My effective tax rate increased from 14% to 15.5%, but i believe that is mostly because I live in high tax Illinois and my local taxes write off was limited to 10k. The increased personal standard deduction did not come close to offsetting that for me.

I have said this before, I do believe the trump tax plan does provide substantial benefit to those lower income working people with the increased personal standard deductions however I also believe the ultra wealthy go too much while folks in the middle like me are paying more.

RE: Have you received your fake tax cut? Still waiting?
Query: If we go by world standards, which I am going to postulate as being the breakdown of tax revenues by class in all developed countries, which US income groups are overtaxed and which are undertaxed (IE, which ones pay more than in the rest of the developed world and which ones pay less)?

High income (describe at top 1%, 10%, or 20%, your choice)
Middle income (everybody between top and bottom)
Low income (basically bottom 1/3)

President Conman will probably promise you dummies a 50% cut before the next election. 05-stirthepot

Well, if you got out of your mothers basement and got a job, you too would benefit from the tax cut.

Sorry. Hadn't heard of it.

Doesn't bother me, though. He did get the initial tax cut pushed through.

But regardless of how much or how little we're taxed, it doesn't matter because I know that Congress (the branch which controls the purse strings) will always spend more money than we take in.

But I am intrigued that you seem to be saying that you don't care if politicians lie or say anything just to win elections.

I'll file that nugget away for future use. 03-wink

Actually, I didn't say I didn't care.

But, I know it happens. I don't like it. In fact, they shouldn't do it.

And you can definitely file away the fact that I don't like it and use it for future use.

Because I don't like it now, I won't like it then and I didn't like it in the past. Especially the part about my healthcare costing less when in fact it has gotten quite expensive.

But here's something I do care about.

Let's say Trump lied. I don't think it's too far out on a limb to go there.

Should I support the politician that lied to me but whose policies I like or should I support his opponent who lied to me but whose policies I oppose?

For example... federal judges. If Trump walked up to me and spit in my face and then turned around and appointed a pro-life judge, I'd ask him to spit in my face again.

If you haven't got yours that's because it wasn't supposed to cut the taxes of the welfare class.

Sounds to me like your problem isn't the federal tax cut but with the tax policies of the People's Republic of Illinois. My overall tax burden went down.

Well, honest and realistic.

I truly wish it was the case that politicians -- and people in general, for that matter -- had enough integrity to actually tell the truth.

But they don't.

And that speaks volumes as to why our political landscape is what it is.
