My original prediction was 8-4, 2-2 OOC and 6-2 MAC. Staying with the prediction.

I agree at this point in time... write this down.

IF we get BLOWN out on Saturday at Toledo I will NOT over react. Ok who am I kidding...

If we lose on Saturday, which is to be expected, and keep it close I think we will be in the 7/8 win mark... If we squeak out a win by the hair on our teeth and it was probably more Toledo crapping the bed... stilll 7/8 win mark. If we do work and beat Toledo straight up and look decent doing it id say 8/9 win potential likely. If we somehow rip Toledo and look great doing it... 9/10 win potential.

IF we get RIPPED apart on Saturday ... 6/7 win likely our best potential.

So... there's that.

Crazy thing is that Toledo's defense is almost worse than ours and they beat two decent teams

I don’t think they muffed a punt inside their own 10 or fumbled away a TD at the 1 foot line though.

Quote:I suspect if Fleck wins a West Division Championship (much less Big Ten championship) Minnesota won't be able to keep him either.

Getting past Wisconsin & Iowa -- including feisty Northwestern -- I agree. But they may not want him instantly. Depends on the market looking for new HCs in the upper P5 area. He'd need to keep them afloat up and around there for that. Sure, he beat Wisconsin last year during their reloading year. But by normal odds, he'd need more than just 1 good season, IMO.

Quote:My original prediction was 8-4, 2-2 OOC and 6-2 MAC. Staying with the prediction.

Ballsy, given the Top 4 MAC teams to play, we have to play -- all on the road.

Quote:IF we get BLOWN out on Saturday at Toledo I will NOT over react. Ok who am I kidding...

I won't over-react. And that's not because I have money on the game expecting us to lose, to lick my wounds -- but I'm expecting being blown out as a Possibility, given it's on the road with arguably the best offense we'll face all year*.

Quote:If we lose on Saturday, which is to be expected, and keep it close I think we will be in the 7/8 win mark... If we squeak out a win by the hair on our teeth and it was probably more Toledo crapping the bed... stilll 7/8 win mark.

I agree that if it's close and lose or close and win -- no differences on Expectations. I would put more like 7, although 8 if lucky facing some teams with key injuries where we have none, and our D continues to at least get a little better, week by week.

Quote:If we do work and beat Toledo straight up and look decent doing it id say 8/9 win potential likely. If we somehow rip Toledo and look great doing it... 9/10 win potential.

The problem with this is: Don't expect it to tell the tale of the season if we win straight up. We lost to Ball State but beat MAC Champ NIU. HUH? Yeah, that's how things are when our D gives up a lot of yards. I think we still need to prove our solidity. That said, if we Blow Out Toledo -- yeah, I'm on board to say 9W is a possibility. But just all those road games, ugh. And I hate it when teams have a big win, then ride too high -- and lose the next (see Buffalo). Happens All The Time. PJ would keep our team exciting & going. Hopefully TL fires them up IF we were to beat Toledo, to keep them going in practice -- and not be Mr Rogers. :)

Quote:IF we get RIPPED apart on Saturday ... 6/7 win likely our best potential.

Yes. Same if we lose straight-up and it isn't quite that bad. Which I see as the most plausible scenario if I had to bet on scenario. Our D is going to be a bit skitzo -- and our O can move the ball but stall. But adjustments and such could end up with a win @Ohio + Miami Solidly -- but yeah, get solidly stuffed by Toledo.

*They're about as good as MSU's O on an MSU good day. YMMV. We faced MSU on a good Offensive Day after their O-Debacle to open the season.

Predictions still pretty solid outside of the couple people predicting 9-3 or so. (I for one have been dead-on.) I see a lot of people pre-season (and mid-season) had Eastern as the game to swing us from 7-5 to 6-6 or vice-versa. Many had us losing to Toledo as well so we're about right where everyone thought. Will be curious to see how the Ohio and NIU games shake up......

So if we finish 7-5 and make a bowl game would everyone here qualify that as a good season?

I am content w/ 7-5, but think the goal should be 8 wins every season.

6-6 disappointed
7-5 content
8-4 happy
9+ cloud 9

7-5 w/ the expectation next year for the staff 8 or 9 wins

We can still and should still hit 8 wins this year.

So far you have the most accurate prediction.

It depends on how we get to 7-5, and what happens with the bowl game.

8 wins is historically a good season for us. With a murderous schedule, missing an impact player in Eskridge, Wassink being limited again, and that 5th loss being a close one, then I think this team battled and overcame a lot of expectations. We do have three quality wins under our belt, including beating a apparently good CMU team. So I am not unhappy with that, but we had more potential this season.

I’m wondering if the 4 games played redshirt rule comes into play now. Do we have a few players that can impact our won-lost record at this point? To be fair, other teams would be in a similar situation.

We might still have 5 games left.

We’ve played a few already. Lester mentioned Sanders (likely giving him a year to bulk up), Isma (who played last year on special teams) and Bonnema. He said we’d see Kneeland and Sherwin sometime soon.

Considering Wassink playing a bit injured -- I'd positively call it a Decent season, since we're in the tougher-road-schedule year. I'd call it a "Good" season if we won a bowl game -- or played a team who was a Big Favorite over us and we played a close game.

Perhaps, but it's true. 8 wins would have been enough to get us to Detroit. 7 might be if Eli Peters decides he wants to grab the reigns on Friday.

It seems this team met the expectations of about half the forum members, and exceeded the other half that predicted 6-6. There were a few optimistic predictions of 8 or 9 wins, and we came close, but we didn't make that happen.

I predicted 7 wins due 100% to coaching. We had the talent, a competent coaching staff could have reached 9 wins maybe 10. As long as Lester is here that is our ceiling.

The coaches are 100% responsible for the talent in college football. I have to agree we are slightly out-recruiting our results on the field going by recruiting rankings in the MAC.
