RE: Official 2019 predictions thread
6-6. We are who we are. Not buying into Wassink's experience translating into an overall improved team. We haven't had this shallow of a pool with our offensive skill position players since probably 2013.
Maybe we go 7-5 if we can beat Eastern on the road. But I think we're just as likely to be 2-4 after the Toledo game. With this team not having a true bye week until mid November, if it gets bad, it could get ugly. On the plus side, we'll only have 4 more Lester seasons at that point.

This is the season that proves Lester can or can’t handle this team. Looking forward to seeing how this shakes out. We put a 2 or 3 win season together I’m gonna guess Tim will be out the door.

Unless there’s a total disaster, there won’t be, Lester will get a fourth and maybe a fifth year.
The schedule is nasty and 6-6 is not out of the question.

Outside of 2016, have we ever had a particularly easy schedule? I Get sick of 'blame the schedule.' This one's relatively moderate. Wait till next year when we replace Georgia St with Cincinnati. This season, the home schedule is begging for all 6 wins.
And don't count on a 2 or 3 win season. This team's picked 2nd in the Division and some are picking us MAC Champs.

I, too see 7 - 5. I've been trying to come up with a scenario where I could predict 8 - 4 but that will take an upset of sorts. Who knows at this point if we are capable of that?

With the injury to French I have to revise mine realistic 6-6, optimistic 7-5.
Completely changes the effectiveness of our defense in my view.

If we go 6-6, Lester needs to be shown the door. No ifs, ands or buts. The administration needs to prove that it wants better than mediocrity.

Don't think they really care. There are a lot of folks living comfortably in the A.D. office. No pressure.

Unfortunately, I agree. I haven't seen much a killer instinct from them.
Kathy can just say "look what Fleck did!" from here on out. She really lucked out with that hire.

At the time, he was the youngest HC in FBS. Had never been a head coach or coordinator at any level of football. She took a huge chance on him.
If our other sports programs were winning championships left and right, I'd say there was more to it than luck, but...just look around

KB gets a lot of credit for the Fleck hire, and rightfully so, but it would not have happened if not green-lighted by Pres. Dunn. He played a big role in that decision.
These have been posted elsewhere and illustrate we are doing less with more (in terms of facilities and alumni / donor interest) as an athletic department as a whole when compared to our peers:
https://www.cbssports.com/college-footba...ann-arbor/
https://athleticdirectoru.com/articles/a...onference/
Other than Coach Murray and the hockey team, anybody associated with the athletic department needs to be feeling a bit uncomfortable right now.

Kathy didn't want Fleck....Dunn wanted him. If memory serves, Kathy wanted Tim back then. I don't think she can hang her hat on Fleck's hire unless Ed Montgomery doesn't know the detailed history.

RE: Official 2019 predictions thread
First, I don't credit hearsay—especially from this forum. She hired Fleck, stuck with him through a historically bad season, and critically let him be himself.
Second, you can't evaluate someone's job performance by discounting their greatest success(es). Should we evaluate Duke's athletic department by discounting the basketball and lacrosse team?
Third, whether you believe it was dumb luck or not, we were very aggressive in pursuing keeping Fleck.
And fourth, listicles are garbage.

Or what? It's been status quo for years with a few upticks here and there. Murray has been good but still hasn't won anything.

She didn't want Fleck and then couldn't keep him. The community did all they could to keep him....she screwed up the contract negotiation. That level of contract discussion or negotiation was way over her head. It should have been signed and sealed before the Cotton Bowl. She follows up by taking a safe hire with no D1 head coaching experience. Kathy really needs retire if we are to move forward in any significant way. The basketball situation is even worse.

So 7-5, but 6-6 seems more likely then 8-4.
----I think Ws vs MSU and SU are possible, but unlikely.
----We haven't lost to EMU since 2013.......I'm afraid we're due for a Loss vs them. They are better then they used to be and winning in Ypsilanti can be tough. If they're having a good season (and they could be 5-1 going into our game), and Rynearson is pretty full, going to be trouble. I think they have a new QB though.
----Like EMU, MU also scares me. I would imagine next to Frank Solich, there's as much pressure on Chuck Martin, only if Solich loses he's not on the hotseat like Martin is. He's been building/trying-to-build-a-program and this might be the year he breaks through.
---- I get they're defending MAC Champs, but I haven't been impressed with NIU lately. I don't buy we beat them because 'they bagged it in' last year. We had them on the ropes most of 2017. Don't see why we can't win again. We haven't won in DeKalb in forever, though.
---OU and UT seem like guaranteed losses, could arguably be tougher then MSU and SU.
---Hopefully with the recent Ls vs bad UA, CMU, and BSU teams, we can avoid Ls vs bad BSU, CMU, BGSU, and GSU teams. Can't pencil in a W till they're over!

I don't see a L to a bad Ball St team 2 years in a row, unless we're substantially worse or Ball St is substantially better.
Just trying to be helpful here Mike Glass III played a lot last year until hurt and yes he is back this year at EMU. Good luck this season.

Business as usual for WMU athletics, I was optimistic for 8-4 but I think reality will have us at 6-6.
