RE: 2019 NFL Thread
Can we vacate the NFC East’s playoff berth this year? I mean if Eli Manning and his floppy sleeves can crave up Philly, what is the point of having the Eagles or Cowboys get into the postseason ahead of the Rams.

So the Falcons winning has pissed me off even more as it provides a reason for Arthur Blank to retain Dan Quinn. That said, if they can get Norv/Scott Turner out of Carolina on the staff, I might be OK.

Kind of why I thought Carolina fired Rivera when they did. So he couldn't rescue himself with a late push.

Concur. I will be interesting to see what Tepper decides to do.

Falcons Head coach and GM are confirmed to return for 2020. I can only hope that when the inevitable 1-5 start occurs that Blank fires these chuckleheads immediately before they can 'right the ship'

I'm to the point I don't care any more. 19 of 21 seasons [since the rebirth] this franchise has finished below .500 and made the playoffs one time. Never winning the division either. It doesn't matter who the owners are, the general managers, or the players. Different year, same results. I feel bad for the fans who put up with this shat year after year. It would've been better if the Browns had never been brought back after Modell moved them to Baltimore.

They weren't hot crap either before they came back.

But my man did hire/keep Kitchens and the team did massively under perform based on the trajectory from last season.

Agreed, but the city of San Diego and the metropolitan area did not want build a new stadium for Spanos to replace aging Qualcomm Stadium (Jack Murphy Stadium). They told him build your own stadium, sell the team, or leave. Spanos chose the last option, with a lot of regrets, but technically, what else could he do? Jed York (49ers owner) and Peter Magowan (SF Giants owner) set off a firestorm in California when they built stadiums for their teams with their own $$'s. What that California media doesn't tell you is that rising costs forced Magowan to sell and Jed York had less $'s to spend on the team roster & coaches to make the team competitive. That's why partially why Mark Davis chose to relocate. The other reason why is he didn't have the money to build his own stadium, and Oaklanders hate anything to do with San Francisco, which is why Davis didn't move into Levi's Stadium. New Yorkers are different, which is why the Giants and the Jets can do it.

Spanos could have been less of an ass and more like his father. Seeing as the Padres were able to secure gov't financing for Petco Park, it wasn't like the city wasn't open to the idea. But Dean wanted a shiny new downtown facility and not a rehabbed Jack Murphy or new stadium next to the old one.

As for Davis, he is paying for the sins of his father who while a great football mind I think was terrible operationally. While I understand his move to Vegas, its not like Oakland had any money to give towards a new facility.

Dean Spanos spent 20 years trying to get someone in San Diego to give him a new stadium at little or no cost to the Chargers. He burned bridges with his abrasiveness and unwillingness to make a significant investment in a stadium. He is just an opportunist who doesn't regret anything about San Diego.

The 49ers got a ton of money from Santa Clara; they didn't pay for their stadium all by themselves.

And yes, Al Davis always hated the 49ers, so the Raiders never wanted to be a tenant in a stadium owned by the 49ers. Though the Raiders would have had few other options if Nevada had not gifted the Raiders $750 million.

Magowan was never the sole owner of the Giants, just the chairman of a large group of investors. The team is still owned by a large group of investors, with no one owning anywhere near a majority of the team. I think Magowan sold his own shares several years ago. They did finance the ballpark without public money, and the debt service is a significant financial burden. The reason the team has become profitable is that their revenue from ticket sales and TV rights exploded after winning 3 World Series.

Personally, no Pro Sports Stadium should be publicly financed unless the citizens themselves vote for a special additional tax to pay for it.

That is how both the Diamondbacks and Cardinals facilities were built
