I suspect that was tied to getting the Tucson bowl ...

That seems highly likely ... you can't promise to send you most appealing schools to every bowl game, and the Boise bowl will take a middle of the pack MAC school because they survive on a stable long term sponsorship, local support and ESPN air time, and they realize that with the explosion of bowl offerings, they aren't going to get the like of the Hurricanes, Georgia Tech or Virginia again.

It's good having two games against the MWC, and the Tuscon bowl is indeed the most interesting part of the package deal.

The history for these slots for the ACC and SEC does not support this happening every year. As much lipstick as you want to put on the AAC bowl lineup, Aresco still got you a PIG.

Like you, I never mentioned the MAC being in a pool with those AAC bowls, just CUSA and the Sun Belt.

But bottom line is, until CUSA and the SB release their bowl lineups, we won't know who is right or wrong. He might be right.

Though even if he is, I would still agree the bowl lineup is uninspiring and an Aresco fail. But it won't be as much of a fail if the AAC is the only G5 in a pool with the ACC and SEC.

I stick with my prediction that AAC is the only non A5 in those 3: Gasparilla, Birmingham, and First Responder. And also that it is big for AAC to have almost all of the A5 vs non A5.

I bet the SBC will have an announcement like this:

Annual Bowl games

New Orleans Bowl – vs. C-USA
Mobile Alabama Bowl vs. MAC

Three Appearances from the following

Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl
Camellia Bowl
Cure Bowl
Frisco Bowl
Myrtle Beach Bowl
Bahamas Bowl

A slightly different bowl lineup than the MAC since the MAC is hosting the Bahamas Bowl and the SBC can only sign 5.
Take out the Bahamas bowl and you're probably 100% correct for the 2020 season.

I'm figuring there was a deal where the SBC is going to get some slots in the Bahamas with the MAC picking up those Cure Bowl slots.

I wouldn't be surprised also to see CUSA announce the game in Boise as part of their personalized bowl pool since the MAC has New Mexico in theirs.

Bowl ratings of the lower tier games have been consistently strong to the point where they want to try them OTA. Las Vegas Bowl and Boca Raton are both picking up an ABC window this year.

That wouldn't surprise me. I love "bowl season", all of it, not just when the SEC starts playing around December 30th. I watch basically all of the pre-Christmas bowls I can, which is usually all of them, LOL.

Moving them on the dial means nothing to me, I can find them on ESPN2 as easily as ABC, but if it means these bowls are more likely to survive, that's good news.

RE: MAC Announces 2020-25 Bowls
Quote:MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE PARTNERS WITH ESPN EVENTS
WITH FOUR ANNUAL BOWL GAMES DURING 2020-25 BOWL CYCLE
MAC with a guaranteed six bowl games beginning with 2020 bowl season

Cleveland, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference will participate in four ESPN Events bowl games during the next cycle from 2020-25. The MAC will anchor two bowl games with the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl in Nassau, Bahamas and the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise, Idaho for each of the next six seasons (2020-25).

“The Mid-American Conference is proud to continue its partnership with ESPN Events and participate in four of its bowl games annually,” said MAC Commissioner Dr. Jon A. Steinbrecher. “The mix of games provides the opportunity to visit an array of great bowl sites and play against an assortment of other conferences. Attractive destinations and compelling match-ups make this partnership valuable to our membership and should provide Mid-American Conference teams and fans with great bowl experiences.”

During the next bowl cycle, the MAC will also participate in a minimum of two (2) additional bowl games annually among the following games: Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl (Boca Raton, Fla.), Camellia Bowl (Montgomery, Ala.), Cure Bowl (Orlando, Fla.), Frisco Bowl (Frisco, Texas), Myrtle Beach Bowl (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) and the New Mexico Bowl (Albuquerque, N.M.).

All the bowl games will be televised nationally on ESPN networks and will feature opponents from the American Athletic Conference, Mountain West Conference, Conference USA and the Sun Belt Conference.

Official MAC release. A couple of notes below.

-Mobile is not listed as a tie in the announcement. The MAC commish also didn't mentioned it during media day. It sounds like its going to be a contingency agreement if the SBC/CUSA don't fill it like the MWC's arrangement with the Cheeze-It Bowl.

-According to the commish the MAC may have arrangements with 1 or 2 more games. He's likely speaking to Mobile and Shreveport backups.

-The announcement said all of the games will be televised nationally on ESPN networks meaning the Arizona Bowl will move from CBS-SN to ESPN for 2020-25.

RE: MAC Announces 2020-25 Bowls
While financially it now works for the bowls to be owned by ESPN to survive, I really wish there were spread out over more networks. I have a feeling Mobile, Independence and Az will be making announcements about being part of the ESPN family.
