Marshall Announces Baseball Stadium

After 50 years or so of being promised a baseball stadium, one will be built for Marshall. Coach Jack Cook was promised a stadium when he took over the program in 1968. That was 3 years before I was born and Im 47 now.

Congrats, Marshall.. It'll take us longer than that to get an IPF for FB; we were promised one more than a decade or so ago.

Sorry but not even close and that doesnt even take into consideration a 15 year span where Western went to the NIT and the AP poll was not around. In those 15 years, 10 of them Western won 85% or higher of their basketball games..90% 5 times

111 weeks ranked in the AP as I said 15 years that there wasnt a poll Western won 85% of their games 10 times. So a ton of missed rankings. UTEP was a .500 or below team in that same span.

Up till the mid 70s Western was considered one of the top 10 basketball programs of all time. UTEP has had 2 or 3 spurts but nothing lasting over a 2 or 3 year period. Good history but you will still need to add teams to it to match Western's national numbers. Looking at that list the only other team that has a decent basketball history is UAB. UAB has a really good history but it's a short one compared to Western and UTEP.

The AP poll shows how respected the Western basketball program was...ranked in 8 out of the first 10 AP polls. Hell one year ranked 14th with a 4-2 record . If you are not respected as a great program you wasnt ranked back then.

So, the team with the most conference wins in football since joining the league isn't even in your top eight. But the one with 10 fewer over the same time is #1.

And the team with most wins in basketball and only multi-year winner in the NCAA tournament makes it to only fourth.

You were specifically talking about WKU's past success. I kindly pointed out that UTEP has won the big boy National Championship once and no one else in this conference has...including WKU.

Inflated? The OVC in the 50s, 60s was a good basketball conference and Western was ranked 14 out of the first 24 years of the AP. So I dont think the titles were inflated. A lot of those years that Western was winning 80%+ games. Western played a national OOC schedule.

I must have edited the UTEP run in the mid 80s to early 90s out. It should have been other than that span...2 to 3 year.

1948-49 Ohio Valley had 2 teams ranked at one point or another
1951-52 Ohio Valley had 3 teams ranked at one point or another

I was talking about HISTORICAL no one is close to Western and one great season does not over come that. Is it great to win a national championship. Yes, and it sure as hell feels better than coming in 3rd. I assume even 2nd but I wasnt alive when that happened to Western in the NIT F4.

But it still doesnt make up for overall history

WKU's women's volleyball is usually very competent.
