RE: Eye on the BYU
Byu in football only is a no brainer. It will only push us above the pac 12 even more. Let the other sports take their natural course. I wouldn't be surprised if Byu were to join that Boise doesn't get the itch again to elevate fball as well. Particularly if it helps Byu. If Oklahoma and Texas bolt, then it makes the remaining fball landscape even a more quality potential group.

RE: Eye on the BYU
BYU has all their other sports in the WCC...which is an analog to the BE in the west. That is PERFECT for them. We do NOT want BYU for "all sports" nor does BYU probably want the AAC for "all sports." Which, in this case, is fine. The WCC is a mostly religious, western conference (think Gonzaga, Saint Mary's, Pepperdine, etc...) and has been home to all the BYU sports for the past seven or so years.
The key need for the AAC FOR FOOTBALL is 12; we can survive quite nicely for a while with 11 BB teams...until or unless ESPN decides whom we need to add purely for content's sake. (i.e. Who ESPN is willing to pay for...) BYU...again, purely for FB...(may) need consistent Bowl tie-ins and a CCG which could give them at least a conceivable route to the CFP. BYU could also thrive with Eastern exposure to balance off their Western markets.
I think BYU to the AAC...FOR FB ONLY...is going to happen because ESPN owns both products. I think we see a "Navy-like" provision that allows BYU to keep their OOC-contract and rights but places BYU in the Conference (probably in the AAC EAST) for Conference scheduling. (That's just my guess...)

Obviously we’d kill to have a high quality team like BYU. I doubt it happens, though.

This is my take except I have them in the West and Tulane or Memphis shifting to the East.😎]

Prefer BYU in West. Navy fits east but wants in west for TX recruiting. I prefer Tulane Bourbon Street over Beale Street BBQ.

Football only/basketball only is what tore the BE apart.
Conference a la carte does not work.
You're either ALL IN or ALL OUT.

It was 8/7/1 split in the Big East. Anything the American will do will look like C-USA version 1 which was a good conference. If the conference falls apart it’s because Cincinnati has left to a better place.

I'm also fine with staying at 11 in basketball if we go after BYU as football only. Not the biggest fan of having to play the dregs of our conference twice yearly with a round robin, but ECU, Tulane, and USF have taken steps to become more competitive programs so that might not be a bad thing for much longer. In fact, when this conference was created, Houston, SMU, and UCF all stunk as well and they have stepped it up. Ironic that UConn ended up being passed up by several C-USA call-ups.

Eh the Big East was almost half basketball.
No way we get rid of Navy or Wichita. Both have been great additions.
I do agree don’t go too far in with a la carte. BYU full member or FB only and that’s it.

There was no football only in the big east. but the 50/50 split between schools with and without the sport created opposing interests when it came to expansion. the need to fill football schools with less than desirable basketball programs made the nonfootball schools want out. theres nowhere near enough likeminded nonfootball schools to want to split again, and since we're staying at 12 there wont be unless theres massive realignment again. if that happens the bearcats will be among the first to leave anyway, so we might as well make this conference as powerful as we can and if it falls apart one day it would only be because we're the ones who left.

Yeah, I'm not too worried the risk of having non-football members. Honestly, UConn was probably the only school in the league that had a viable alternative conference to park their basketball in. Wichita State's not going back to the MVC, and I don't think VCU or Dayton would willingly go back to the A-10 if we added them. If the Big East came calling one of those schools, they would jump at it, but otherwise any non-football additions are staying here until there's another major shift in conference realignment. When that comes, hopefully we'll be getting our call up to a big boy league anyway.

UD should be Big East, just like Notre Dame. Perfect fits.

I don't want Dayton in our league, but I used them as an example. Unless we are going all in on westward expansion, I prefer to stay put at 11. No round robin in basketball though, as I don't want us to be stuck playing Tulane and ECU twice per year.

Dayton is not being added to the Big East, and they aren't being to the AAC, either. It's either BYU, Army or Stay at 11.

It cannot be Army unless you have a solution to the game with Army being AFTER the Conference Championships?
Put Army in East and never let them play as a conference game unless they both win divisions? Then would they have to play twice?
