Boise State vs Oklahoma.

To me, that is the definitive upset. It made a brand out of Boise State, all of the trick plays, the back and forth action. Without a doubt to me this is number one.

This was the most fun college football game I have ever watched...amazing end to that game.

RE: The greatest upsets against the P5
By the way, I'm very familiar with Centre College.

I live in Lexington Kentucky and it's close by in Danville Kentucky. Beautiful country down that way.

A complete 180 to the culture of Harvard.

One more thing, I'm not saying it's not a great upset, I was saying it's not a P5 upset.

Tech is the only G5 school to beat the SEC Champion during the season

Houston over #3 OU to start the season was pretty great. Brandon Wilson's kick 6 is still the craziest sports play I've seen live.

HOLLY HELL! What an OOC schedule!

Louisiana Tech played

#1 Florida State (the one who beat a Michael Vick led VA Tech in the National Championship)

#6 Texas A&M

#18 Alabama.

MAJOR PROPS!

Ok cool. As a Houston fan, would you rank that over the 2009 win against Oklahoma State?

Also, looks like P5 schools in Oklahoma are regular offenders!

We also played #25 USC that year.

Our schedule was the 18th toughest in Div 1-A

Current rank. Discuss...

1. 2006 Fiesta Bowl #8 Boise State vs #10 Oklahoma - The gold standard

2. 2007 Appalachian State vs #4 Michigan - A rare top 5 road win against a college football powerhouse

3. 2009 Houston vs #5 Oklahoma State - Eye opening road win for Houston against #5

4. 1999 Louisiana Tech vs #6 Alabama - Road win against the SEC champs

5. 2017 Peach Bowl #12 UCF vs #7 Auburn - Major scalp, helped UCF win a national championship 02-13-banana

Honorable mention

2016 #15 Houston vs #3 Oklahoma - Home win vs Oklahoma

2018 ODU vs #13 Va Tech

2003 Marshall vs #6 Kansas State - Kansas State won the Big 12 that year

That's what I remembered most about La Tech. They built their brand playing anyone, anywhere, anytime.

It was a better win but probably not the better upset. If that makes sense.

2015 Memphis over #13 Ole Miss deserves a mention as well. The rebels had knocked off Alabama a few weeks earlier in Tuscaloosa. I feel like that win kind of put the AAC on the map.

Edit: it was also probably the first big upset of the playoff era

Oh yeah, that was a good one. Helped the American immensely.

Are we talking greatest wins or greatest upsets. The G5 teams were dogs in most of these, but some are bigger upsets than others.

RE: The greatest upsets against the P5
I think App over #5 UM HAS to be the biggest. Also, didn’t ECU beat a fairly highly raked Miami (FL) in the mid to late 90’s?

Yes, looks like East Carolina beat number 9 Miami in 1999.

So we'll add it to the list.

I'm trying to pull all of these together, and then we can discuss where they would rank.

Like your point, why would you consider the Appalachian State win a bigger upset than Boise State? Not from a flame question, but for a discussion. Make your case!
