You're right, Boise won't accept either. The blue field has kind of become a college football icon. It sucks to watch on TV but you know who you are watching when you see it and it's usually a good Boise team.

RE: What should the AAC do with membership?
Take the best 12 teams from the AAC, MWC & Independents and form a new all-sports conference. Name the new conference the "Power 5 Conference" with a logo of P5 Conference. That way anytime anyone mentions the Power 5 Conference or the P5 Conference, they are talking about us. 03-lmfao

Or . . . Name it the "SEC", not the Southeastern Conference, just the letters "SEC". That way that other conference would have to call themselves the Southeastern Conference. They couldn't use the chant, S-E-C, S-E-C, S-E-C, because then they would be cheering for us. 03-lmfao

I'm really just joking . . . or am I? 03-drunk

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
If you can't join 'em, pi$$ 'em off!!!

Everything I’ve read from media sources says the opposite...contract to remain unchanged or no significant difference with one team leaving. Navy AD spoke on it some today.

True. The only thing I've heard debated is whether the total pie stays the same - giving more per school - or whether the per school stays the same. Either way, it ain't going down.

Contrary to what J&J were saying yesterday. They were concerned we would lose all this new tv money because UConn is gone. As much as I've grown to enjoy listening to them, they are painful to hear when they are uninformed - going on and on about something that's wrong.

UConn women do not get better ratings than AAC football.

And, no to Noder Dame. We want to improve our football SOS with this move.

If we are going to start splitting sports up then it needs to be a deal with some MWC teams and BYU or completely throw that idea out. That is what killed the Big East, having basketball only schools.

Big East had 7 BBall only schools and could block any move by the all sport schools. Having 2 BBall onlys doesn’t recreate the BE issues.

Semantics, but the BEast 7 charter schools were not bball-only. They were non-FBS football. All other sports were included in the old BEast and the new (not just basketball).

My dislike of espn 3 is personal but it’s not uncommon.
I purchase all espn —-unfortunately, 3 is still only on the Internet here... which I know how to stream to big screen—but internet itself is glacially slow. Many times it crapped out all together for Memphis BB games. Perhaps our games will get bumped up.

I will need a future link to believe that UConn women’s BB will be behind the bottom of our AAC Football espn 3 viewership... since it hasn’t happened yet.

Bottom line. I’m not a fan of Aresco’s treatment of our football team when it came to AAC championship games or even the navy games. It’s difficult to believe the marching orders did not come from the top. ("I root for the ref" )

edit: UConn's departure is not a good thing, imo. Huskies may not have been a 'good fit', but who is better. So let's stay with 11, split the extra moulah and try to get the eff outta the AAC.

Agree.

You can't invite a school that almost had the program killed just a few years ago. Staying at 11 football schools is the right call and least painful. Maybe see if there's a decent A-10 school willing and able to come on as basketball only to even out basketball scheduling.

Otherwise there's no hurry to replace UCONN with program like UAB, or Southern Miss, or MTSU that don't have any potential to be more than what they've been, or even with schools like Georgia State or FIU that have potential but haven't really come close to getting there yet. Can always call one of those guys up if they continue to get their acts together.

But right now there's not a feasible option that will do anything to really make us better and a few that could make things worse. So stick with 11.

A strength of the conference is media markets. GA St. is a no brainer in that regard,. The ATL market is too appealing to not take a flyer on them. The School has a huge enrollment, though it is a commuter school, not unlike Memphis. They will be competitive, and the league will save on some travel cost, seeing as though geographically it makes sense.

As for women's ratings, there are obviously no links for future games, but "most of our fb" games have outdrawn UConn women because most of college football outdraws women's bb. I found one article that said UConn had a 1.4 rating for their F4 game last year. That's probably a recent high point for them. The highest ever rated women's game was UConn in 2009 at 1.9.

For comparison, our lowest bowl game this year (USF-Marshall) was 1.1. We drew a 1.6. So our lousy bowl game was in the ballpark with the highest women's bb game of all time. It just doesn't draw.

I'm not an Aresco fan, but don't see that this has really anything to do with him. UConn has been leaving ever since they got here.

Boise is a great town! If we play away in winter, add in a ski trip.

Sounds great, but I seriously doubt they join the AAC.

I don’t see UAB, Ark State, SMiss, MTSU, GaState, FIU, Army, Air Force improving AAC stock.
I don’t see any school isolated extreme West being a viable all sports partner.
I am not convinced adding more single sport partners is value added. Hating on BYU might be worth it.
I don’t see having a school in our conference with a blue field.
I don’t see enough money to make a 14-16 team conference viable at this time.

Move slow.
Talk with ESPN and make sure we don’t go backwards with payouts and ask which teams actually bring more dollars to the table in negotiations.
Talk with whatever group needs to advise a path to legit P6 status.
Figure out how to get an invite to B12 -1

The worst thing may not be doing nothing for a year or two until something clearly becomes apparent that will elevate the league.

I’m sorry, but I can’t tell what side you are on based on that last sentence. Something about too many negatives gets me lost....

I’m on the side of being smart and purposeful. I thought my entire post gave great detail and my last sentence is not a multiple negative

Ok, that was what I took from it - I agree that taking a wait and see position is the thing to do.

I was fighting my inner “grammar police” while reading the last part, but maybe that’s just me.

04-cheers Go Tigers!

Games won’t be on ESPN3 but ESPN+. Difference is currently $4.99 per month plus tax. Probably an increase coming too. Not the money for me but the fact that many casual fans won’t pay to see the games. ESPN intends for AAC fans to pay for big chunk of TV contract by basically forcing most of us to subscribe to plus to see ALL of the Tigers games.

Thanks. If ESPN+ is only 5 bucks per month, that would be swell AF.

Addressing Tiger87: Of course our FB games, along with many other AAC FB games, outdraw women's anything. I was thinking how the bottom of our conference FB games would not outdraw UConn women's BB when the Husky Women have better opponents.

bottom line. I don't like our status in the AAC.. We get no respect. Maybe 'cause we too have been trying to get out of the AAC--ever since we realized it wasn't the Big East/ P5. We need to get out. The money differential is staggering

UConn's women's BB would have gotten more viewers than most of the fb and bb in our conference.

Take that, Aresco lovers.

With that in mind, I choose Notre Dame. They have beautiful helmets.

I know you're baiting, but...

ESPN3 is not for casual viewers. It's new content for AAC fans. I look forward to the day when I can actually tune-in to see a Tigers baseball or softball game being broadcast.

UConn women do not get better ratings than AAC football.

And, no to Noder Dame. We want to improve our football SOS with this move.

In a few years everyone will have ESPN+ and Disney+ just like they have Netflix now.
