Kick out Wichita State because they don't field a football team.

Tell Navy to join in all sports or get out. If they stick around, add Army in all sports to balance it out.

Focus on making this the best football conference we possibly can.

Agree.

You can't invite a school that almost had the program killed just a few years ago.

Agreed. We'd be the laughing stock of the sports media. Not indicative of a "power" move.

UConn's women's BB would have gotten more viewers than most of the fb and bb in our conference.

Take that, Aresco lovers.

With that in mind, I choose Notre Dame. They have beautiful helmets.

I know you're baiting, but...

ESPN3 is not for casual viewers. It's new content for AAC fans. I look forward to the day when I can actually tune-in to see a Tigers baseball or softball game being broadcast.

UConn women do not get better ratings than AAC football.

And, no to Noder Dame. We want to improve our football SOS with this move.

My dislike of espn 3 is personal but it’s not uncommon.
I purchase all espn —-unfortunately, 3 is still only on the Internet here... which I know how to stream to big screen—but internet itself is glacially slow. Many times it crapped out all together for Memphis BB games. Perhaps our games will get bumped up.

I will need a future link to believe that UConn women’s BB will be behind the bottom of our AAC Football espn 3 viewership... since it hasn’t happened yet.

Bottom line. I’m not a fan of Aresco’s treatment of our football team when it came to AAC championship games or even the navy games. It’s difficult to believe the marching orders did not come from the top. ("I root for the ref" )

edit: UConn's departure is not a good thing, imo. Huskies may not have been a 'good fit', but who is better. So let's stay with 11, split the extra moulah and try to get the eff outta the AAC.

And I'll need a link that our games will only be on E3 streaming.

As for women's ratings, there are obviously no links for future games, but "most of our fb" games have outdrawn UConn women because most of college football outdraws women's bb. I found one article that said UConn had a 1.4 rating for their F4 game last year. That's probably a recent high point for them. The highest ever rated women's game was UConn in 2009 at 1.9.

For comparison, our lowest bowl game this year (USF-Marshall) was 1.1. We drew a 1.6. So our lousy bowl game was in the ballpark with the highest women's bb game of all time. It just doesn't draw.

I'm not an Aresco fan, but don't see that this has really anything to do with him. UConn has been leaving ever since they got here.

Games won’t be on ESPN3 but ESPN+. Difference is currently $4.99 per month plus tax. Probably an increase coming too. Not the money for me but the fact that many casual fans won’t pay to see the games. ESPN intends for AAC fans to pay for big chunk of TV contract by basically forcing most of us to subscribe to plus to see ALL of the Tigers games.

I get the difference between E3 and E+. I was just continuing the dialog that Snow started.

How is E+ viewership different from the big chunk of viewers who don't get CBSS? Or what is that other obscure network many of our bball games were on - CSS?

We already had quite a few games that were not on mainstream channels. At least now, we know what we need to do and where to find the games that won't be on regular cable. And IIRC the AAC inventory on regular cable is increasing - not decreasing.

No one is kicking out Wichita, good grief. That move is the saving grace that will allow bball to absorb the loss of UConn without much of a hit. No, they don't help fball but neither did UConn.

I heard Andy Katz yesterday applauding the AAC for having members who didn't have all sports in the league. His point is, that is the best thing conferences outside of the P5 can do. Maximize our revenue, by choosing specific universities and sports that add to our league. He said if we decide to add anyone, our best bet is to do this again - add a fb-only and MAYBE an offsetting other-sports member. No all-sports members out there add value, except BYU and you can't logistically (and financially) add them for all sports.

You just can't change votes willy-nilly. This ain't California. Well at least for most of us it's not.

Actually, when setting up polls here, I've never noticed an option to allow changes. It might be there - but I haven't seen it.

RE: What should the AAC do with membership?
I've GOT IT... BYU, Boise, Air Force.
That get's us to 14 teams
West division
BYU
Boise
Air Force
SMU
Houston
Tulsa
Memphis

That only leaves 2 East division teams they have to travel to... more than likely, just one per year (H/A).

That puts 2 of their division mates (Boise and AF) WAAAY closer than any of their WAC mates are right now, so they might actually save some travel money, or it could at least work out to be a wash for joining as all sports members. I did check. Salt Lake city to Dallas, Houston, and Tulsa isn't pretty. It was in the 1150 miles range on average, but their closest WAC teams seem to be about 800 already. I guess what I'm saying is, I don't think their volleyball team is taking a bus to ANY of their conference games as it is now, anyway.

This would put us in 3 times zones, not 4.

Also, at that point, the MWC is pretty much dead. We would be pretty much the Peach/Tostitos rep every year.

Best idea yet, maybe UNLV instead of Air Force? .04-bow

Seriously. and besides, our 'rivalry' with UAB was forced. Other than having a common thread with Gene Bartow, I never considered them a rival to us.

I like UAB BECAUSE of the their situation. It's like flipping off the P5, and it is REALLY flipping off the Alabama board of regents.

Why not tell them to stick it? Bring in UAB.

UAB football was intentionally killed by the state of Alabama which controls the #1 football program of the decade.

You don't get anymore P5 than Alabama.

I believe you have it!! I would go for this in a heartbeat. That might actually lead to formal recognition by the P5.

I don't know the state politics, but that's not exactly how I recall the situation. Regardless, it would be less flipping off the P5 and more the P5 laughing at us. They would frame it as vindication that we are a non-deserving conference - taking a program that was defunct not so long ago.

I just don't see how us taking UAB would "show them".

Except that Navy wants to be in the West so they can recruit Texas. You would probably have to swap Navy for Memphis in your West division.

I would say that since we hardly have any natural rivals in this conference, go to 16 teams and then the only real time that the football teams play someone from the other division is once a year and then the championship game (Like the way baseball used to be before inter league play). That would cut down on a lot of travel. But I am clueless how a 16 league conference would effect basketball and all the Olympic sports.

I guess my idea is let the two divisions almost be two separate conferences that only play against one another for championship games (or in conference tournaments).

I like it. It's something similar to what I kicked around a few years ago. Another variation would be a 15-team league, 3x5:

West
BYU
Boise
AFA
UNLV
SDSU

Central
Tulsa
SMU
Houston
Memphis
Tulane

East
UCF
USF
Cincy
Temple
Navy
(sorry ECU)

Or, you just go totally 16-team-super-conference:

West
BYU
Boise
AFA
UNLV
SDSU
Tulsa
SMU
Houston

East
Memphis
Tulane
UCF
USF
Cincy
Temple
Navy
ECU

Everyone all-sports except sub Wichita for Navy in everything but football.

I would think with the BYU and Boise brands, and with the additional western time slot, there would be some value for the tv contract. At least enough to keep it at $7M per school. Think of the available content and subscriber pool for E+.

Your CCG becomes bigger and more valuable. You should be able to get at least one bigger bowl. And you have the Access Slot locked down, with a good angle on a CFP slot when it expands to 8.

We were thinking along the same lines.

With the Navy and the West thing, at this point I say "You're in the East, deal with it". It makes no sense from a conference standpoint to have them in the West. I think some of their desire was when we were going to have SDSU in as a member. Some of their explanation, I vaguely recall, was recruiting base. But, geez, you're Navy. If any of us in the AAC are national recruiters, it's those guys. I checked their current roster and they have 10 guys from TX out of 109. It's their 3rd largest state. But they also have 6 from NC, 7 from PA, and 8 from NJ. So it's not like them being in the West is making their roster.

I'd call their bluff. If they decide to leave, you add Nevada in the West and shift Tulsa east.
