They have only been in the Sun Belt for 3 years. Give them some time to develop rivalries and they will draw better.

Put Wake on the schedule and they could fill a stadium twice that size.

03-lmfao Wake at Appy isn't drawing 60K. Where do you guys come up with these claims?

I've been to 3 or 4 Cuse@Wake games and they are lucky to draw 18K of their own fans to BB&T.

Last year's game under perfect weather conditions drew 26K (probably about 20-22K actual) Take away the 4K Cuse fans and you had 16-18K tops.

I may have exaggerated by a few dozen to emphasize the point. App State can draw bigger crowds. Like most places, it depends on who they play. Wake is at or near the top of the list for ASU. That doesn't mean they are ready for a 50k seat stadium.

No one in a major conference wanted to see a Div Iaa school as a rival. Since they've moved up to the FBS and beaten schools like Michigan that stigma is largely gone. Playing App State is about like playing ECU now. It's better than playing someone like Utah State or Louisiana Monroe, but it will always rank behind the other Tobacco Road schools as a rival for Wake.

We're looking forward to our 3 game match up with UNC starting this fall. Should be fun.

By the way, so far the only sold out 2019 games for the Tar Heels are against Clemson and App State. https://www.journalnow.com/sports/colleg...757b6.html

Makes sense. App State/UNC has lots of pent-up demand for tickets. Looking at the rest of UNC's home schedule, Miami is too early to get pumped up about, and Mercer is an FCS school from Georgia that just reinstated football in 2013... the only real sell-out candidates are Duke and UVA, but there will need to be something at stake for either of those to sell out, I suspect.

UVA should be very good. I’m thinking they win the Coastal. What a coup to get Bronco from BYU.

Better learn how to win on the road. The French are 4-13 on opposing team's home fields in Mendenhall's 3 years there so far, including 1-4 last year. 3-9 on the road in the ACC...2 wins at Duke and 1 at UNC.

And, still haven't beaten the Hokies since the first year of George W's presidency. Of course, a lot of teams break out in their HC's 4th year. So, perhaps this is the year. They certainly have one of the better QB's in the league.

Their road prowess (or lack there of) will be put to the test right out of the gate with an ACC Network game opening Saturday night in prime time at defending Coastal champ, Pitt.

UVA remains the only Coastal team who has never played in the ACCCG. The last 6 years have seen each of the other 6 Coastal teams play in the ACCCG. Can UVA finally break through?

We'll see...

RE: App. St. the new Boise St.?
Just a few notes,

This will be App's 5th full year in FBS. During the 4 full years in FBS the record is 40-11. Been to and won 4 Bowl games. App/Wake H/H series has already started with Wake taking the first game with a blocked field goal as time expired. Next match will be @Wake in 2020. AppSt's future home OOC schedule includes UNC, SoCar and ECU.

Kidd Brewer technically only holds around 24-25k, but the general admission grass seating holds several more thousand. There have been 10 games with over 30k in attendance over the last 10 years. Most recently 35,126 attended the Wake Forest game in 2017 and 34,658 at the Miami, FL game in 2016. Construction is underway that has torn down the field house and will be adding a new facility that includes over 1000 luxury boxes in the end zone. Also, the track will be completely gone by the start of the 2020 season.

Now, I don't think App is directly comparable to Boise. It'd take more years and continued success to make that comparison honestly. The 10 win seasons App has been averaging will have to turn into 12 or 13 win seasons to say that App is clost to a new Boise St.

App At ought to get up to 30-35K perm seats. Sounds like you can get to 40K for big local ACC teams.

The Sunbelt have any teams that travel?

Georgia Southern fans travel well. GaSo is App St's big rival. Ever since they moved to the Sun Belt together the games between the two have been on Thursday nights on ESPNU so attendance is smaller than what it could be. If those games were on Saturdays the attendance would be over 30k at both schools. CCU draws in a good amount of fans too. Same with Troy.

I think the perfect amount of seating would be around the 27-28k mark. The removal of the grass seating in the end zone would cause an uproar in the App State fan base.

Those are older shots. The video board has been replaced since with a much larger one and the enzones have gone back to the classic black coloring.
