Tark had been around a long time though. This is Haraway's FIRST full recruiting class. And its not just the number of elite recruits, its the array of talent at all positions. He has put together an entire lineup of 4 and 5 star players. The crown Jewel is the #1 overall ranked player James Wiseman (7-1 center). He landed 5 star PF Precious Achiuwa today, and has surrounded them with an array of big guards and highly ranked 3pt shooters.

Of course the pressure will be there to win games, but that is the whole point of recruiting. To put your program in a position where results are fully expected.

He even pulled verbally committed players away from Kentucky and Duke. Two giants of college BB, Coach K and John Calipari (who coached Memphis for 9 years)

Memphis used to get top recruits all the time in the 1980's and 1990's. Of course they were paying their players and got into numerous problems with the NCAA. You better not hope this is a case of history repeating itself.

Recruiting rankings are mainly for suckers to sell magazines and internet subscriptions. Granted, much more in football...but still.

We were getting top recruits in the 2000's as well.

John Calipari was recruiting as this level here. He got Derick Rose, Tyreke Evans, DeMarcus Cousins, Xavier Henry, John Wall, etc.

It was Dana Kirk in the early 80's that was caught paying players. Most big players were getting paid in those days. Larry Finch ran a clean program from the mid 80's until almost 2000.

No reason at all to think Hardaway is cheating, he simply has street cred and swaq with the younger generation. He has been a major player on the AAU circuit the last 5 years, so he has built some relationships.

The only question from here is probation or death penalty?

My first thought as well but they may decide its better for college BB to have him be a big time coach.

He is the first NCAA head coach with his own Nike shoe line.

Good for Penny and better for College hoops and everyone involved. Of course, never met the guy but have seen/heard interviews and he always came across as a likable, affable guy. And he could most def "ball". There are, of course, a lot of good players all over the NCAA, but the near strangle hold the Blue Chipper schools had on the top recruits isn't good for the entire enterprise and obviously over many years has pressured some Coaches and Assistants to do some unsavory, illegal things. That's no way to show a young man how to get ahead.

With more guys going to places other than the same half dozen or so schools maybe some parity can be brought back to the "league". If that starts with Penny and the Tigers, fine with me.

1.) There is no such thing as P5 in basketball. Stop feeding that BS.
2.) The American is a top basketball league.
3.) Memphis obviously has some excellent bag men.
4.) Probation in 3...2...1....

Most of the super high level bball recruits are getting paid. The bag man isn't some shady auto dealer. As we found out the Shoe companies pay them.

Yeah it is! The last time we generated this much buzz here over basketball was the 2008 season that never happened where we went undefeated.

I love me some Memphis football now but that was only because we had s shite hoops program for the last 9 years. Now my favorite sport is back in Memphis for real and I can't wait.
