Monday Musings
A Bombshell out of Ann Arbor as Beilein Decides to take 23 south to the turnpike and head to Cleveland for five years. Wonder if Nate Oats is wishing he had stayed at Buffalo for a little while longer...
Does Tom Crean end up Michigan?
What about Rick Pitino 20 years too late?
Maybe the new coach will play us at least.
Lot of new buildings going up north side of Campus on Huron River Drive but one empty one still stands the Wooden Nickel. What would you do with it if you owned it???
That is all another sloppy Michigan day.

I think you are right about Nate. Would have been a strong candidate.

What is going up on Huron River Dr? I last was in Ypsi in November so I'm apparently missing things.
Still say EMU needs to acquire that nearby land on the south side of Huron River Dr. and at least clear it even if they don't need it now...

I'm with Tom once again, 100%.
Beilein and Murphy are diametrical opposites as coaches. Izzo kicked Beilein's ass in recruiting year after year. DJ Wilson, Mo Wagner and Jon Teske arrived in Ann Arbor as "projects" but developed into NBA desirable players. Ray Lee and James Thompson came to EMU as very good freshman and left only marginally better.
I'm not saying that Murphy has been a disaster, in fact I would give his overall career record a positive rating, he has made EMU basketball relevant again. The question of course is, can we live with Mr. .500 in the MAC or can we do better? He was also hired under the auspice of reestablishing relationships with Detroit area players and I don't believe anyone would claim that he has done so.
The contract he has now, however, was negotiated after his first and most successful season when he was flirting with a NBA scouting position. I for one, always felt that Murphy "had the gun pointed at EMU's head" during those negotiations and got the contract HE wanted and there simply is no need to apologize for it. In fact after the contract was signed the Murphy family relocated their principal residence back to New York State, which is my primary annoyance with his coaching tenure.
Lets not compare Beilein and Murphy please.
