More than is needed I'm guessing? If you're throwing a blindside block, you need do little more than set a pick.

I'd expect you can lean in, maybe even lower a shoulder, but if you leave your feet or go through the player, I expect that would be called.
That's how I interpret it as well. Kind of vague language but I guess it has to be.

I got blind sided by a long stick and woke up on the sideline one time. I probably would have appreciated a clean pick instead of the force the dude released on me. But I bet it was hell of a hit to watch for his teammates! :)

several here but main ones are:

- Beginning in the fall in games using video review, instant replay officials will be directed to examine all aspects of the play and confirm the targeting foul when all elements of targeting are present. If any element of targeting cannot be confirmed, the replay official will overturn the targeting foul. There will not be an option for letting the call on the field “stand” during a targeting review — it must either be confirmed or overturned.

- The panel also approved instituting a progressive penalty for targeting. Players who commit three targeting fouls in the same season are subject to a one-game suspension.

- The panel approved a new rule relevant to blind-side blocking techniques. Players will not be allowed to deliver a blind-side block by attacking an opponent with forcible contact. It will be a personal foul with a 15-yard penalty. If the block also includes the elements of targeting, it will be a blind-side block with targeting.

- Panel members approved a tweak to the overtime rules. If a game reaches a fifth overtime, teams will run alternating two-point plays, instead of starting another drive at the opponent’s 25-yard line. This rules change was made to limit the number of plays from scrimmage. Additionally, there will be a two-minute rest period after the second and fourth overtimes. The rules for the first four overtimes remain unchanged.

This is a stupid rule change. If they want to limit plays from scrimmage 5th OT to alternating FG attempts starting at the 25 yard line and move out 5 yards, or just end the game with time after 4th overtime.

I prefer the two point attempts to a FG contest. At least there is real football action and play calling for the two's.

How about no FGs in 5th OT, start at 25 first team to score wins.

I don't like the current or most of the proposed plans for games that end in a tie at the end of regulation. I would prefer that game statistics are not so swayed by big scores generated by ot periods.

What is wrong with tie games when in fact that is what happened? For championship or bowl games have an ot similar to the NFL. Toss a coin to decide who is first on offense and play regular football until a team scores. If the first team on offense scores then the other has an opportunity to tie or win the game. If tied after both teams have scoring opportunity continue play, but allow only two point conversions.

RE: football rules changes for 2019
I think that each successive OT should begin 5 yards further back. Starting on the 25 automatically puts the ball in field goal range (assuming a good kicker), so moving the ball back would require a team to at least move the ball before having a FG opportunity which shifts the burden increasingly from the kicking game to the offense.

I don't hate the idea of the 2019 change, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

clt says quit taking a cltidea and using it for appy!

Also, another idea is to reward the team that plays in the biggest city the win, no OT

Just put the ball at the 50, one play. Every time you fail, you lose a player. When you get to one player per team, drop kick FGs. If it still remains a tie, blindfold them and make them kick left-footed. If both guys make or miss their FG, then the team with the prettiest cheerleader wins.

Makes as much sense as any of those other propositions.
