No reason to lose at home. I don’t think any of our home games will be particularly close.

If we beat Maine by more than 10, I won't be worried about any other home game. I think a lot of our fans are going to be shocked by how low the score is in that game though.

Don't forget we have the Cajuns at home this season. Napier's offensive scheme doesn't scare me, but they could arguably be the front-runners in the west.

RE: CFN.COM: 5 Things to Know About GA Southern
while the teams we play away are not favorable, the way the schedule lays out is the best possible scenario we could have had. Only back to back road games is App state on a short week after being at home for 2 weeks, then Troy the next week on a Saturday. Then home game before the long'ish trip out to Arkansas.

We also get a BYE before the conference opener against ULL.

Can Appalachian State pull off a Georgia State-type upset against the Freedom Chickens of South Georgia??... even with the team in ruins and a barren wasteland of a coaching staff? That is the only thing I'd like to know.

If we win fewer than 7 or more than 10 I'll be surprised, so 7 wins would be a disappointment but it wouldn't shock me.

2 main considerations for us:

1. Do we have a backup QB? I feel a lot better with RS frosh Justin Tomlin from what I've seen in spring scrimmages, but he has a grand total of one snap in a college game.

2. How good will Ark State, Troy, and App be? Those are obviously the 3 biggies (conference wise) on the road.

Good lord somebody at the scheduling office hates Ga Southern.

They really hated us this past year. 3 trips across the Mississippi in 4 weeks with the App game in there as well.

We were just tired by the time we got to that ULM game. Not an excuse, but that kind of travel back to back eventually takes a toll.

I don't think it's as hard to play Troy on the road as other people think. stAte really wasn't intimidating either (and they should have lost to Tyson Summers). App is really the most challenging of our road games this year (not counting OOC), just because of how hostile the environment will be.

Lot of talk about how your team wasn't phased by Penn State last year so we couldn't possibly have an effect, but PSU didn't hate the ground you were standing on either. That's the same treatment I expect this year, it does play a part in our games each year. No one else in conference really threatens us with that kind of environment, it's pretty much exclusive to our rivalry.
I have to give credit where credit is due; GaSo's environment for last years App game was about as tough as it gets. Hopefully App will up the atmosphere even further this year as will the boys in Black and Gold.

Disclaimer: By late September and early October my opinion could be very different than it is now depending on how the season goes.

For the first time in quite a long time, I'm looking forward to the game in Boone.

Even in 2011, 2013, and 2015 where we were supposed to be the favorites (can we say App was the favorite in 2015? It would make me feel better) I didn't have a good feeling.

I never have a good feeling going into Boone. We've won what....TWO games in Boone since we started football back up in the 80's?!?! 03-banghead 03-puke

We've won 3/14 in Boone.
They've won 5/14 in Statesboro.

This has very much been a "home team usually wins" rivalry.

That's slightly misleading, App is 4-4 in the last eight trips to gnatsville.

Great response, you certainly proved your point.

Logic and reason are out the window as usual in these discussions.

It's not your usual m.o. to recognize a good response, thanks!

GS posters seldom make them, so I'm consistent.

You're right I've only had 39 reputation points given in like 2,000 posts. More importantly - will you be wearing a costume to our football game?

I love rep smack, next let's discuss instagram likes... You don't math good do you, that is a terrible ratio.

I'll be the guy in black, enjoying a Booneshine, loving life as App beats GS for the fourth time in five years.

You think I was BRAGGING about my 39 rep points?

Besides wouldn't you winning at home only further prove the point I was making in the first place? Obviously, I don't want you to win but it's not going to shock me if you do because that would mean the home team will have won 21 of the 29 meetings between us since 1987
