Western gets football schedule it wants

Broncos just finalized home and home series with Pitt and Syracuse and added a road game at Wisconsin. Good to see a MAC team land those kind of games but wish it was the Rockets.

We got Miami of Florida. Not too shabby. Need to build for the future though.

A Miami name brand every 2-3 years and a Pitt-Syr level every year. Seems reasonable. We're probably not too far off of that. I think it's the Hampshires grabbing memories that distort. Could do without those, not sure their purpose. They are not "tune-ups." They're held when the fans have most interest. No losses yet. Weather is warmer. But I don't think they generate NEW fans.

Anyone official ever give reason for these games?

I want the Rockets to play Northwestern home and home but they are scared of us I think.

the FCS games are cheap home games that do not require a road game in return. to get rid of them means playing more G5 home and home series with teams like troy, middle tennessee st, wyoming, louisiana monroe, etc... and that means every other year we have 1 less home game on the schedule.

after BYU this year we don't have anything scheduled against a name opponent at home. i think we have colorado state, san diego state and umass as out top home games through 2023 so far with 2020 and 2021 all full. so, while san diego state is a well known mid major and colorado state isn't a bad opponent name wise, we have no one approaching syracuse or pitt, much less miami fla, coming to the glass bowl soon.

I could not predict the general fans' desire or the positives vs. negatives of UT playing in such nice recruiting areas but I think I'd rather give up the home game and have the team hop on the bus to Ala, La, Miss..... I wouldn't want bowl games against those leagues but in-season games? Sure.

Heck, let's have a game in Germany or Nigeria. Get in front of the bandwagon.

We beat PITT. Should've beat Syracuse - refs screwed us. We need to play Syracuse again not Elon or VMI or Coastal Carolina.
GO ROCKETS!!!

VMI was a miserable addition to the schedule, don’t get that one whatsoever. A bottom feeder in a lower division. 2019 foe Murray St. isn’t any better.

East, you bring up a great point. I’d love to hear from a UT official why these games are added to the home slate.

Looking at better opponents on other MAC team's future schedules

Ohio hosts Iowa At, Cincy, Syrcause, Marshall over next 8 years, plus FCS at home, some G5 home n home and just a couple money games on the road

Miami has Cincy, Army, Missouri, home FCS and a few money road games

Ball St got Wyoming, Army, Indiana (neutral field in Indianapolis), a few G5 home n home, some FCS and usually 1 money game a yr

NIU has BYU, Wyoming, Vandy, South Fla, FCS home, Tulsa home n home and some tough P5 road games

Akron gets Kentucky, most of the rest is road games a couple ugly G5 opponents and FCS

Buffalo mostly road games and home FCS, plus Temple next yr

BG plays Iowa St in 8 years otherwise mostly road games, FCS and a couple G5 home n h
ome

EMU ugly a couple low level G5 home and homes, a few FCS and money road games. they don't play a half decent home game until San Diego St in 2027

Kent is all money road games at home FCS

as of now the Rockets yearly schedule is typically 1 big road money game, home and homes with San Diego St, Umass and Colorado St, and an FCS home game, for some reason we schedule mostly bottom of the barrel FCS teams

CMU money road games, a few G5 home n homes and FCS which is a dip from their usual ability to bring in a good P5 home game or year or two
