Would the same MPs that just voted him as PM really throw him out via a vote of no confidence?

I am doubtful that a “VONC” (as Brit tabloids like to call it) will take place in the next 5-6 weeks. And after that, it will just be too late.

However: Boris Johnson wasn’t really chosen to be PM by the other MP’s. He was chosen in a nationwide mail-in vote of dues-paying members of the Tory Party. I think about 100,000 people sent in a ballot.

RE: Zeihan Weighs in Again on Brexit
Here's what I would do if I were Trump. Offer the UK a free trade deal immediately upon Brexit. In fact, I would consider entering into some sort of deal with the entire Commonwealth, including free trade and some sort of associate membership. Doing as much rugby travel as I have done, I have seen how easily Commonwealth citizens can move into or out of any Commonwealth country, and I see that as being a significant advantage for US businesspersons and vacationers.

Another need that I could see such an alliance filling is that our military is currently way overstretched and overstressed with our ongoing commitments as world policemen. There have been proposals circulated among several of the Commonwealth members about creating a unified Commonwealth military force. That's basically the way the Brits fought WWI and WWII, and there is some interest in a revival. For example, a unified Commonwealth navy would have 5 carriers (2 RN, 3 India), 33 submarines (10 RN, 16+7 building India), including 8 SSBNs (4 RN, 1+3 building India) and 12 SSNs (7 RN, 1+4 building India), plus numerous amphibious, mine warfare, and surface combatants, with port facilities accessing every ocean in the world. That would be easily the second most powerful navy in the world, and their army, air force, and marines would rank pretty high as well. That is an organization that could take over a lot of our policing responsibilities, enabling us to cut back on tempo of operations, do better jobs of training and maintenance, and still cut some defense spending.
