He said he would be back at center court with season tickets the moment Mick leaves.

He's FOS. All the lower level center court seats are sold out as season tickets, and many were locked up by the top 100 or so level donors before the doors ever opened. I doubt anyone is giving them up unless we go Pitt 2.0 next season.

Eh. It's UCLA. Sometimes you worry about the job more than anything. If he thinks he can win big at the job, who cares what choice you were. Also the number of guys in front of him was always exaggerated. They never made a real offer to Calipari (offered him less than he was getting paid at UK). We know they had extensive negotiations with Dixon and Barnes....that's really it.

Except for the fact that Dick Vitale was quoted as the UCLA job search "getting embarrassing". I hardly think embarrassing was because only 2 guys turned it down.

Wasn't just Vitale. National media was declaring the UCLA job search a joke. Contrary to what Mark thinks. UCLA whiffed on Calipari, Brad Stevens, Luke Walton, Tony Bennett, Billy Donovan, Jamie Dixon, and Rick Barnes. These are just the reported names. Heck, they are only paying Mick $4 mill a year. With cost of living its almost as much as he made at UC. Guess Mick wasn't made a real offer under that rationale.

Yeah, not really buying the narrative Mark is constructing. I think it's pretty obvious that to stitch together that there were quite a few preferred candidates discussed and whiffed on.

Besides that, i think this is the best save face outcome for all parties involved.

I'm very much relieved that we can move on. IDGAF about what Mick does in LA. Pac-12 hoops is too late for me to watch, and I've seen enough of Mick-ball anyway.

I look forward to getting back into UC hoops. Each year had been reduced to just waiting to see how he would blow it in the tourney.

Good article from Doc. Mick did a good job. Dug us out. Probably maxed out here. Weird hire/wierd "fit" in LA. Is he making enough?

Next man in.

Cronin is leaving the program in infinitely better condition than Huggins did - and in both cases this is the result of the coaches’ own doing.

Cronin is 100 times the man Huggins is, and Huggins does not deserve Cronin’s spot.

Cronin raised us from the ashes. He served us well. I wish him the best.. Thank you, Mick. Good luck in California.

Have you called Nancy to find out who our next coach should be?

What are her suggestions?

Cronin served the University well. I am thankful for what he gave us. Unlike his predecessor, Cronin is leaving the program in MUCH better condition than he found it. He is leaving with class, and not trying to dismantle the program on his way out the door.

I loved when Huggins was the coach at UC but over the years I have seen a guy that won't change things when needed, doesn't seem to worry about graduation rates and his teams in WV had major issues with personalities and crimes. Never mind the Alcoholism and heart attack waiting to happen. I'm happy to see Huggins back at his favorite university now. Let's hope UC admins don't screw this mess up. We probably will lose some of the players from last years team now.
I just hope the next coach recruits by basketball ability and not just well, Doc mentioned it in the enquirer that other day. Mick should have watched some of the players on IOWA as they outshot us.

I’m pretty sure $4m in LA is better than $2m in Cincinnati.

I suspect the talent pool for UCLA is bigger than it is for UC. Mick has a history of raising a program from the ashes. And California isn’t a bad place to live.

Have to wait and see what happens with Logan Johnson who is from the west coast.

that would be a crushing blow to UC. Plus, will Scott remain next year to attend school with his twin sisters or does he go to UCLA as a graduate transfer? not sure if he would play much at UCLA but mick's running it for a while anyways.

NOT SURE many will agree with the weather stuff at California the past few years but also being where pelosi, feinstein, schiff, harris are your representatives would be a plus. And 4 million at California is about like making 2 million at Cincinnati. Cost of living is more than twice of cincinnati. You must be a diehard democrat to think California is a great place today. haha

it looks to me that UC hasn't told the whole story yet. Mick must have felt he had no other choice. And that is sad.

Like you, I wonder if Cronin was politely pushed towards the door. While no one was happy with post season failure - including Cronin - I still think he did a fine job at UC.

UCLA would be happy to be in the tournament every year at this point, but they probably won’t be 13 years patient waiting for tournament success.
