Jake Ohmer of WKU is transferring. Guess he drew the short straw and had to go.

Has a lot more to do with him not being a very good player and he had some off the court antics this season. Jake had zero basketball scholarship offers until he scored 117 points in 3 games at the state tournament his senior year. Stanz watched him front row that week and offered him right then. Most knew it was a move in part to boost squad numbers because we only had 6 scholarship players available, and he was a KY kid. We wish him well but I would be lying if I said that his contributions or lack thereof will be missed. Best move for him and for WKU.

I was surprised he stayed this year. I think I could beat him in basketball.

Have you ever scored 117 in three consecutive games at any level?

Matt Horton is going to play at Pittsburg State. This information is for ODU09 if he would like to update Page 1 of this thread.

He is no where near the player he was then. He can’t shoot the ball worth anything anymore. If he could have hit the broadside of the barn he would have played a lot more. Yes, me saying I could beat him now was totally tongue in cheek. (His short butt wouldn’t be able to stop Me down low though)

I don't think he was on scholarship this past year so him leaving doesn't really free up a scholarship.

If Bassey leaves that should even up the scholarship situation. If he doesn't one more will have to go.

I don't think issue was shooting, more of he could not get his shot of as easily as he did in high school. This lead to him rushing when he was open to get it off and could not hit a broadside of a barn....He was a D2 player when we offered and still is, better for both parties the split...

Jalen Jordan from St. Francis is transferring to MTSU. I'm thinking he has to sit out a year as a regular transfer? Had very solid numbers his two years at St. Francis (almost 15 points a game with solid shooting percentages - 6-2 guard).

It is said on Twitter that barring a last minute change of heart Charles Bassey will transfer to the NBA.

Not all that surprising. Wku will still be formidable without him.

We will go back to being a smaller guard orientated team which in today's college basketball world is not necessarily a bad thing...

Been hearing that Carson might be a monster for us, Tolu Smith will also be much better. We should be around 30% better than last season, and that would have won us all those close games last year

People are talking about everyone but Carson and like those you heard from....

I think he's going to be a difference maker. Tolu will have to adjust to not fouling as often or he wont log many minutes. I hope he gets in better shape than last year. Looked like he came in with some baby fat and it was slowing him down.

Tolu being out before season with injury really hurt him, it put him behind physical and skill level since he could not practice

However, schools have been known to fudge accounting numbers on travel, food, lodging, and team expenses and misappropriate those funds. Just saying, we don't have donors ponying up hundreds of thousands of dollars to get kids here. Stanz got high profile recruits at Miss St and has deep connections in recruiting pipelines everywhere he goes. Just think it's sour grapes saying we are blatantly cheating when there is zero evidence to the contrary.

Hate to break this to you, but a lot of programs cheat by handing out cash to players. I'm not accusing Stans or anyone else, but if you think it doesn't happen, you are just fooling yourself. Have a nice day

I think the only school being discussed here is Western....

so your point is meaningless. Western is not out bidding other schools for these recruits. Unless it giving out asst coaching jobs. Which isn't against NCAA rules and something ODU has done.

Welcome to the sidebar.

My comment was addressing this quote: "Also, if we are paying players I'm not sure where this money is coming from"

Notice my other comment where I say I am not accusing Stans of doing any of it.

I realize ODU hired Stith. Fortunately Stith actually does real coaching and has 14 years of experience playing in the NBA. You are more than welcome to stay on the defensive about the pedigree of your assistant coach, which I never questioned btw.

Yet those 14 years in the NBA only landed him a high school coaching job. That is till ODU hired him and his two sons, playing at ECU and Virgina (top 100 player) followed him to ODU .

I'm not on the defense, I know exactly why Auriantal was hired. You are the one trying to defend ODU hiring a high school coach. Paint it any way you want but it's the same thing Western did.

Do you think someone would have hired Stith if he wanted to coach? This is a guy that played several years in the NBA. But, he was tired of the traveling and wanted to take it easy and watch his kids grow up. He was talked into becoming the local high school coach. He played for Jeff Jones Jeff finally convinced him to be an assistant coach when his kids grew up.

Whether its ethical to hire someone to bring their kids along is a different topic that is up for debate. Bryant Stith is a real basketball coach. Basseys advisor is not.

Always felts like Bassey need to come back, glad he felt same. Hard to not get too hyped, but WKU for sure CUSA favorite. I just hope team chemistry is a lot better than it was last season. One positive is we will have a lot more depth this season if roster is same in Nov as it is now...
