Obviously you cant take athletic budget money and hand it to players. However, schools have been known to fudge accounting numbers on travel, food, lodging, and team expenses and misappropriate those funds. Just saying, we don't have donors ponying up hundreds of thousands of dollars to get kids here. Stanz got high profile recruits at Miss St and has deep connections in recruiting pipelines everywhere he goes. Just think it's sour grapes saying we are blatantly cheating when there is zero evidence to the contrary.
Hate to break this to you, but a lot of programs cheat by handing out cash to players. I'm not accusing Stans or anyone else, but if you think it doesn't happen, you are just fooling yourself. Have a nice day

I think the only school being discussed here is Western....
so your point is meaningless. Western is not out bidding other schools for these recruits. Unless it giving out asst coaching jobs. Which isn't against NCAA rules and something ODU has done.

Welcome to the sidebar.
My comment was addressing this quote: "Also, if we are paying players I'm not sure where this money is coming from"
Notice my other comment where I say I am not accusing Stans of doing any of it.
I realize ODU hired Stith. Fortunately Stith actually does real coaching and has 14 years of experience playing in the NBA. You are more than welcome to stay on the defensive about the pedigree of your assistant coach, which I never questioned btw.

Yet those 14 years in the NBA only landed him a high school coaching job. That is till ODU hired him and his two sons, playing at ECU and Virgina (top 100 player) followed him to ODU .
I'm not on the defense, I know exactly why Auriantal was hired. You are the one trying to defend ODU hiring a high school coach. Paint it any way you want but it's the same thing Western did.

I am sorry that Stith offends you so much. I am not painting anything, I really don't care about how WKU landed Bassey. I've always been supportive of it. But since you keep bringing up Stith, here's the picture: Branden and BJ Stith both graduated and are no longer on the roster, and Bryant Stith is still our assistant coach.
I guess we will see what happens with your assistant once Bassey leaves, but truthfully, I couldn't care less.

Bryant Stith only coached at the local high school for his small rural community because he was asked to do it. He did not pursue any coaching jobs prior to Jeff Jones becoming head coach at ODU. Jeff coached Bryant at UVA and Bryant had kept in touch with Jeff over the years. He also credits Jeff for some of the success he has had in life. When Jeff was hired at ODU Bryant was there from day one when it was announced in support of Jeff and asked Jeff for a position on his new staff. The Stiths are a tight knit family and that led to his two sons relocating to ODU. Bryant also coached them both in high school and won multiple state championships while coaching them there.

That one definitely hurts. We have a boatload of incoming transfers that announced in the last few days though. Hopefully some of them can step up and fill the void.

Wow. Ouch. You guys didn't have a lot of depth this past year. That loss hurts.

RE: CUSA Basketball Transfers
Rice gets a graduate transfer in Harvard point guard Tommy McCarthy. He started for Harvard as a freshman but didn't play much the last three years there. Probably will just be providing bench help for us in 2019-20 (assuming we aren't losing anyone else at this point).

Taylor averaged 19.5 points a game in D2 - that's legit at any level. UH had a D2 transfer in hoops last year who got some attention right away (although to be honest, he couldn't break the rotation for their top-10 team).
I do admit when I saw Lincoln Memorial right away, I thought it was a high school team because I've never heard of that school. But they do have some top-10 D2 programs, so props to the Railsplitters.

I am sure your non conference schedule will allow everyone a chance to get roles locked down and get the chemistry down before you play some real teams....
