RE: Rice at ODU game 3
There is no doubt that Dunlap is having a heck of season, but lets face it, he is no spring chicken.

MLB teams love upside and youth and unfortunately Dunlap misses on one of those.

It's a shame that he is almost 30 years old. If he were younger, he would definitely be a pretty high draft pick with the numbers he is putting up.

Andrew Bellows Dunlap. Born: May 4, 1994

So almost 26 with a wife, kids , mortgage

25, I think, this May. Still a bit older than the pros would like.

His Rice baseball bio shows him as married but does not mention kids.

RE: Rice at ODU game 3
Without question "Andrew Bellows Dunlap" has the most power a Rice team has seen since Lance Berkman. With the numbers he has been putting up with the bats that are being produced to say the season he is having is spectacular would be an understatement. Yes, he is old but I think he has the potential to be in the big leagues and his power/strength is what this team needs, who cares if he is as old as one of our coaches.

Classic gender assumption. Did you put your MAGA hat on backwards to type that?

What graduate program did Dunlap get into again? I would think that has some bearing on his future after this year.

Just playing the odds. Love your stereotyping of me with a backwards hat.

Sorry we could not have a nice discussion.

Anecdote: A friend of mine, upon meeting a young man with his hat on backwards: "I looked all over town for a hat like that but all I could find was the kind with the bill in the front".

Enjoy the day.

He is getting an MBA through the Jones School per LinkedIn.

Blasphemy! So it’s all online! How did he swing that gig? We haven’t had a player playing while in the MBA program since I can remember.

Thanks for the info.

Seeing as he is pursuing an MBA at a top 25 business school, I hope he sees it through and graduates. Age and talent aside, it seems like it would be difficult to an MBA on hold and pursue pro ball.

I think Rendon was injured that year, and I think his draft status was determined more by his overall career.

BUT, if Andrew can have as much success in the pros as Rendon, I am all in favor of it. I hope he does.

RE: Rice at ODU game 3
After quite a few google searches, I have been unable to find the ages of the oldest MLB draft picks in history. I imagine Dunlap would have a shot at that record at 25 (note, FA deals are a whole different ball game).

This article from Fangraphs is dated (2012), but the information is interesting nonetheless. Dunlap is very talented but averages would say he has a ton of catching up to do in the event he pursues a professional career.

Level Average Age
AAA 28.2
AA 23.8
A+ 22.4
A 21.2
A- 20.9
R 19.4

Not that it is entirely relevant, but Brandon Weeden is still the oldest NFL draft pick in history, as he was 28 on draft day.

RE: Rice at ODU game 3
I don't know how many times one person can respond to themselves before they're caught.

But to set the record straight....

(A) Rendon had 20 homers as a freshman and 26 as a sophomore (with 85 RBI). Rice hit .326 as a team in 2010 - AR had plenty of help in the lineup so they couldn't pitch around him all the time (although he still had 65 walks).
(B) Rice hit .286 as a team with 23 homers total in 2011 (his junior year). Rendon also was hurt part of the year (he mostly played DH, so it's also probably the case he wasn't 100 percent at the plate). Plus, perhaps the ball and bats weren't as lively, and perhaps Rice's lineup just wasn't as strong. Rendon had 80 walks his junior year (the next nearest Owl was walked 31 times). He absolutely was pitched around that season.
© Comparisons between Dunlap and Rendon are silly. Dunlap is having a great year and is posting the best power numbers since Rendon as a freshman and sophomore. But he's not going to be the #6 overall pick in the draft (and that was a heck of a 2011 draft with Gerritt Cole, Trevor Bauer, Francisco Lindor, Javier Baez, George Springer, and the late Jose Fernandez all selected in the upper half of the first round).

Weird power move to copyright your last point but you do you. There was no need to look at his freshman and sophomore year. I said Rendon's Jr year. No one said Dunlap is a better player. He is putting up better numbers that's all.
