They need to host the damn thing in New Orleans every year. Relatively central location and has an NBA stadium we could play at. What is the point in having garbage ass Tulane in the conference if we aren't going to utilize New Orleans. I don't understand it.

NOLA is a great idea. At SMU sucks. Central time zone and it is the most western school in the conference

Ditto. New Orleans is an international tourist destination and would be among the best American cities for such an event. I'd be fine with establishing the tradition of having the American tournament there every year. Heck, it might even motivate Tulane to take its own basketball program seriously.

^^ It makes sense but this conference is all-in on Texas. They are moving the tournament to Ft. Worth for the next three years and the conference headquarters is moving to suburban Dallas as well.

Heard Aresco comment on it on a podcast a few months ago. He talked about the proximity for Houston, SMU, Wichita, Tulsa, Tulane and Memphis fans to travel for the tournament. I imagine UC and UConn are unhappy about the deal (we are the only schools in the east that travels), but what choice do we have at this point?

Tulane students won't leave the dorm for a home game so the short drive to Texas for the postseason is laughable. SMU, Tulsa and Houston hardly have loyal fan followings in roundball. So it sounds more like a deal that was cooked up to move conference HQ to TX for some preferred financial guarantees for future tournament dollars.
Somewhat unrelated, but I hope Aresco lit up the folks at his old employer CBS for their Selection Show reference to the "Power six" basketball conferences to the exclusion of the American. It's ill informed based upon the current tournament field and NET rankings. But the bigger issue is the power conference designation only applies to football. ESPN seems to have moved to "major seven" and there is a clear line of demarcation between that group and the other couple of dozen conferences that makes for a more useful classification.

It's stupid. The whole logic of Tulane is moronic. If they are going to center everything in this league in the DFW area then they just need to go ahead and cut ties with Tulane and pursue someone like Colorado State, who has a good fan base and a decent brand. Or even BYU.

Likely a sign of the new TV deal that is currently being worked on. Looks like ESPN is in and CBS is out.

Exactly my thoughts as well in regards to CBS. They are out.

RE: Cincinnati vs Houston, 2019 AAC Championship
I meant to ask this earlier but forgot:
So I 'cut the cord' and I do not get regular ESPN. However, I get the ESPN app and I can get games that are on ESPN3 or whatever is available. Well, I could watch the Houston/UC game on ESPN3 but it was the "Above the Rim" view. It was actually kinda cool. No announcers or anything.
However, I wanted to ask about JC. Every time he scored a basket, I swear he looked over at the Houston bench as if he was staring at Kelvin or someone else. Does JC have beef with someone from Houston? He was almost openly taunting them after baskets.

Maybe it is time for a radical new idea. A western division tournament somewhere in Texas, and an eastern division tournament somewhere else (rotate among Conencticut, Cincinnati, Florida).
After two days off, the two winners play it off for the championship in Louisville/Atlanta/St. Louis or in the higher seeded teams campus.

I have advocated this with full western expansion but it could work with the current group too.
My plan added Gonzaga, BYU, Dayton, and VCU
West: Gonzaga, BYU, Tulsa, Wichita, Houston, SMU, Tulane, Memphis
East: Cincinnati, Dayton, UConn, VCU, Temple, ECU, UCF, USF
West in Vegas.
East in Columbus, Ohio
Tournament starts on Tuesday, travel on Friday for championship game at the home court of the highest seed.
