Knowing they have only UC to cover now, they will probably just skip the sports segments altogether.

Good take; sad but true! My wife was telling me that all the highlights she saw this morning on 9's early news were X. That team that lost last night and won't be in the NCAA Tournament. I've always felt 9 was pretty pro-X.

It certainly appears at this point that the American is the stronger conference this season compared with the new Big East.

One thing I will have to hand to their conference, I flipped over to watch the last few minutes of their game and MSG was PACKED and the atmosphere was electric. And that was just a semi final game between 2 teams that aren't located in that city. We get FedEx forum with their non functioning sub horn and scoreboard.

Granted, MSG is a historic venue. Villanova should have a big crowd there as Philly is a short drive/train ride away with plenty of alumni in the NYC metro. That fanbase has to be energized with two national championships the past four years. St. John's and Seton Hall are practically in the neighborhood; Providence up the road. Not even the B10 Tourney in Chicago enjoys that kind of proximity. I've read that the new incarnation of the BE Tourney has not sold out all sessions since it formed; something that was a regular occurrence in the old Big East.

The FedEx Forum is an excellent venue and Memphis is a fun town for visitors. The problem the American has is once you get past the Memphis Tigers, it's a long trip for every other conference member. That will always impact attendance. My guess is with Memphis playing today in the first game and Cincy and WSU bringing fans for the second, those seats fill up.
