RE: Transfer Updates
With that being said...
Northeastern’s Shawn Occeus is transferring. Battled injuries, but averaged 10 points per game this season.
At this point the CAA is going to be wide open next season.

Tough loss for the Huskies.
That one hurts. He was looking at being their alpha player this season too. He was good, but never came off as major conference starter good
I agree, I think Northeastern will be fine. They have other guys that can step up... Just bizarre how many transfers there have been in the CAA so far. I Know you have to be feeling pretty good about Drexel not losing anyone.
It is still early as the tournament is still going on, but yes so far so good on our front. On paper we are going to be a deep talented bunch. Will be interesting to see how far they step forward next year with all of this other movement around the conference. On paper we certainly look to be a top 3 team (and climbing as more defections keep happening)

RE: Transfer Updates
With the SoCon and other conferences leaping ahead of the CAA in basketball(or at least staying on par. This year was an anamoly), what is the draw of playing and staying in a one bid conference any longer?

It's bizarre to us this year because of the new Transfer Portal system. As someone pointed out on the W&M board, it was created in 2018.
It's a quite new system that is supposed to give players more leverage over their careers. IMO, it's a slick way to turn Mid Majors into P5 farm systems. Sure, on occasion a P5 player will drop down to a MM, but by and large it's a way for P5s to snag high quality Mid Major players who have proven themselves in 1-2 or even 3 years at the D1 level. There's little to no benefit for anyone outside the P5, IMO.

Well, it's not a well kept secret that P5 money controls the NCAA. It's their world, we just play in it.

RE: Transfer Updates
Clemson's 6'10" Javan White has entered the transfer portal as a grad student. He had already transferred from Oral Roberts. Don't know if he could be of any help or not. He backed up Thomas at Clemson.

The non-P5 schools out number the P5 schools. They just lack leaders with enough vision and courage to realize they can do something about changing the status quo.

If the Mids pushed the P5 too hard, they would just leave. It's a delicate balance. I'm also in favor of the players doing what is best for them. If you treat a player well I believe by and large they will stay

RE: Transfer Updates
White would be a nice addition you would think. If NE lost those 2 guys plus their star PG, that will hurt them you would think. They will find a way somehow but Green was a senior too, I think it was Green. That guy that blocked shots and dunked a bunch.

RE: Transfer Updates
The transfer portal being the new shiny object is obviously going to have a significant negative impact on mid major conferences going forward. Looking at how many CAA players are testing it, even from a successful program without any sort of coach "issue" such as Northeastern is a very telling tape.
Coaches at the mid major level are going to have to quickly learn to adjust to this, and I think it's going to force teams to pack their rosters with a lot more JUCOs going forward.

This sounds good in theory, but it's just not true for the most part. I have a hard time believing Bill Coen didn't treat those players well and they were going to have a good chance on repeating as CAA champs. Odd moves by Occeus and Gresham, I imagine they'll be nothing more than a small fish in a large pond now.

RE: Transfer Updates
Nathan Knight announces he will test the NBA Draft Waters. No surprise here... probably would have happened regardless of if Shaver was kept on or not, however the likelihood of him returning is much lower now IMO.

I've put my name in the transfer portal. I believe I have 1 year of eligibility as a grad transfer. Let's see what happens.

All that does is make me a compelling unknown. I'll be inviting scouts personally to my facility for a private workout. I'll ask them not to park in the driveway, as that's where the court is.

Just remember, barfing on the scouts is not a good impression.
